Dethleffs Generation: Luxury newcomer

There is a new series of caravans for 2019: the Dethleffs Generation. There is a choice of five layouts and the series is immediately labeled as a promotional model. This means that the caravan is equipped with luxurious extras – insert a gas bottle and you can go on holiday straight away.

Of the five layouts, the 465 EL and the 465 FR are particularly interesting for Dutch campers. The first has a round seat and several beds, which you can use to create a large double bed of almost two by two meters with an intermediate piece. For this test, however, we'll be looking at the second: the 465 FR. Also with a round seat, but with the immensely popular French bed.

Exterior Dethleffs Generation

The Generation is equipped as standard with a hail-resistant roof and smooth plating on the outside. The alloy wheels give the caravan a sporty appearance. The streamlined rear bumper is beautiful and comes from Dethleffs' top series: the Exclusiv. The large chrome shunting handles look robust and contribute to the chic appearance of the Generation. Two service hatches ensure easy access to your holiday luggage. What is special is the 70 centimeter wide entrance door and the lowered entry - which makes it nice and easy to enter.

Living, cooking and sleeping

When you enter the caravan, you immediately notice that the furniture is not in the usual wood colors - they are almost completely missing. Instead, a modern shade of gray was chosen that varies in color at the upper cabinets, suggesting a beautiful shadow effect. In combination with the indirect lighting, this creates a pleasant atmosphere, especially in the evening. The Generation has a round seat with luxurious furniture upholstery. The back cushions are in two colors and we see contrasting curtains at the windows.

The 465 FR has a spacious round seat with the kitchen with a large refrigerator (142 liters) right next to it. A hob with three gas burners and a sink (with glass covers) are concealed in the kitchen worktop. Under the worktop we find three drawers spanning the full width of the kitchen: plenty of storage space. The 465 FR has a longitudinal French bed. The beveled foot end ensures a smooth flow to the bathroom area where we still encounter wood colors at the cupboard doors. We see a lot of storage space, a sink with mirror. The lockable toilet has an easy-to-clean bench toilet and you can also take a shower in the same room: a shower curtain prevents everything from getting wet.

Technique

Water pipes, the heater's warm air hoses and the electrical wiring are neatly concealed in the Generation. A Truma Combi 4 provides heating and hot water. 'Scandinavia' versions are also available within this series, especially for winter: with Alde liquid heating and underfloor heating.

Conclusion Dethleffs Generation

With the Generation, Dethleffs developed a completely new caravan series between the existing Camper and Nomad series. Immediately upon introduction, the Generation was upgraded to a promotional model packed with options, so you can go on holiday straight away. The virtual absence of wood tones is a daring step - within the caravan industry. And a successful step, because it gives the caravan a modern and contemporary look.
