Digicar was founded in 2004 by owners Maarten Huisman and Tom van der Weijden. We quickly came into contact with campervan and caravan owners – a much larger target group than initially anticipated.

Thanks to our customized approach, we are one of the few providers able to specifically address the needs and preferences of this group of drivers. SPECIALIST

When modifying engine software, it's crucial to proceed with extreme care. It's also essential to know exactly where the added value lies for the target group. Maximum power or high peak power is often of secondary importance for many campervan and caravan drivers. Much more important for this group of drivers is the extra pulling power and torque curve from low revs.

This significantly expands the operating range of your campervan or car. The engine is noticeably more powerful across a wider RPM range. The car or campervan not only accelerates more easily from a lower RPM range but also maintains its speed more effectively in mountainous terrain. An added benefit is that you can drive longer in a higher gear. In practice, this results in fewer gear shifts, greater driving comfort, and a more relaxed driving experience, and often results in lower fuel consumption.

APPROACH

A careful working method is essential for a good and reliable result. The additional torque and power achieved should never come at the expense of the engine or its lifespan.

Digicar not only possesses the necessary experience and expertise, but also guarantees quality through the most comprehensive working methods in the market. Digicar is a leader in this field: always customized, with a complete diagnostic process and extensive control measurements.

Before starting any work, we always begin by assessing the customer's needs. Are there any specific preferences or considerations? We then begin a comprehensive diagnostic process. This includes reading the vehicle's or camper's error memory. We check for any malfunctions and/or error codes.

But it doesn't stop there. We always conduct an extensive test drive with each vehicle beforehand and perform live data measurements. This allows us to accurately map its performance in its original state.

We then optimize the factory data using our customized approach. We are one of the few providers to manage this process entirely in-house, ensuring the necessary expertise is available in-house. We optimize the relevant parameters within the engine software for each engine speed and throttle position, resulting in a refined tuning for each vehicle.

After this adjustment, we verify the results on the road. This involves re-measuring and logging data during an extensive test drive. This way, we verify that the modifications have been implemented within the specified margins and that the real-world results match the intended optimization of the engine software.

ADDED VALUE

Due to the high (loaded) weight of a campervan or the heavy combination of a fully loaded car and caravan, chip tuning offers clear added value for many drivers. The extra pulling power, the wider operating range in which additional torque is available, and the increased driving comfort make it a particularly attractive option. Especially from a price/technical perspective, when you consider the benefits it offers.

But is chip tuning worthwhile for every campervan or car? No, it's not that simple. It's important that the campervan or car is equipped with a turbocharged engine. This applies to both diesel and gasoline engines. With turbocharged engines, the power gains—in both Nm (torque) and hp—are so significant that chip tuning almost always leads to a significant improvement in torque and pulling power.

With non-turbo engines, the technical possibilities are much more limited, often resulting in minimal results. We generally don't recommend chip tuning in such cases. Chip tuning is also not always recommended or technically feasible for vehicles with very high mileage or very old age. Finally, the engine management system must also allow for chip tuning.
