Well insured while traveling: what do you need to know about insuring your camper, caravan or tent trailer?

For many, camping is the ultimate way to relax. The freedom to go wherever you want, sleep surrounded by nature or at a cozy campsite. But camping equipment also comes with responsibility. What if you break down along the way? Or what if your vehicle is stolen, damaged in a storm, or even burns out in storage? Then it's good to have good insurance.

One coverage, different guarantees
Anyone looking to insure their camping gear will quickly find themselves faced with the choice between third-party liability, limited hull coverage, and comprehensive coverage. However, some insurers take a different approach. Aveco Insurance, for example, offers standard comprehensive coverage for campers, caravans, and tent trailers. This may sound less flexible, but it does offer peace of mind: all common causes of damage are covered.

What is available is the way the vehicle is insured in the event of total loss or theft. Aveco customers can choose between a 4-, 6-, or 8-year depreciation plan based on a fixed value. In total, this always provides 10 years of coverage. This is certainly a valuable advantage, especially for more expensive or newer vehicles.

Breakdown on the road: what are your options?
A blowout in France or a motorcycle accident in Italy happens more often than you think. Good insurance not only covers the costs of damage, but also provides practical assistance. Aveco, for example, operates its own 24/7 emergency response center. Those with comprehensive insurance can count on roadside assistance and, if necessary, replacement transportation.

What strikes: The replacement camping equipment is Dutch by default. This makes it easier to continue your trip, instead of having to rely on local rental companies with different terms and conditions or language barriers.

Insurance during storage? Absolutely.
Many people don't realize until they're too late that most storage facilities don't offer coverage for fire, theft, or storm damage. An insurer that also offers coverage during storage is therefore a valuable asset. Especially if the vehicle isn't being used for an extended period, it's wise to carefully check what's covered in that case.

Personal contact makes the difference
In the camper and caravan insurance market, personal contact can be hard to come by. But there are exceptions. Aveco was founded by campers, and customers say it shows. No anonymous helpdesk, but direct lines with people who know what it's like to be stranded along the Route du Soleil. You'll also notice the difference in the event of a claim: they think along with you and respond quickly.

How much does such insurance cost?
The premium depends heavily on the type of camping equipment, accessories, usage, and desired depreciation period. Comparing is worthwhile, but don't just focus on price. Especially for longer trips or more expensive vehicles, it's advisable to pay particular attention to the terms and conditions, coverage during storage, replacement transportation, and how claims are handled.
