Crua Loj: four-season tent with energy label

Winter camping is in the spotlight, but most campsites are deserted. That can change with a tent from the Irish Crua Outdoors. The Crua Loj, for example, is insulated in such a way that it maintains a pleasant indoor temperature in summer and winter. Crua Outdoors was created by the spirit of a chilling camper. Founder Derek O'Sullivan woke up in a tent in the middle of the night because he was freezing. A good time to find a solution for that. Crua Loj

An insulated tent that can accommodate up to six people for comfortable camping in the snow or in a storm. The Crua Loj is 2,13 meters high and therefore has ample headroom in the middle. It is 4,27 meters wide and 7,23 meters long. These dimensions make it anything but a lightweight tent. A hand truck is useful because the tent weighs no less than 92 kilos. Fortunately, the weight is divided over three packages. Setting up the Crua Loj can easily take an hour.

Base camp

The weight and setup time also make it clear what the Crua Loj is intended for. As a base camp. For a holiday of several weeks, as a starting point and destination for trips in the area, or perhaps for a seasonal location. There are four side windows and two front windows, so that plenty of daylight comes in and you have a beautiful view. The reinforced steel tent poles withstand even the worst weather. The most special thing about the Crua Loj, however, is the patented, insulating fabric of the inner tent. The special TT insulation ensures that the temperature inside remains pleasant, even in the snow. But it keeps the tent cool in the summer.

Against cold, light and noise

The insulated tent not only blocks cold and heat, but also light and noise. Not everything, but you can no longer hear the neighbors' conversations so clearly. The material of the tent cloth consists of dense microfibers and has an R-value of 9. This “R” indicates how well or poorly a window, wall or insulation mat conducts heat. The higher the R-value, the better the insulation. An R-value of 9 means that the Crua Loj can be used at temperatures of -45°. In addition to the insulating cloth, a breathable layer of polyester and cotton provides sufficient ventilation.

Pricey

A large, insulating tent has its price. You can put this tent in your shopping cart for €1.919,95. But for that you get much more than just a tent. You can also look at the smaller three-person Crua Tri. Also insulated but available from around €745.
