Six tips for tent repair from Obelink
With 72.500 m², Obelink's Camping Store can easily be called a megastore. It is even the largest camping store in the Netherlands. With so much retail space, it is not surprising that customers make a day of it at Obelink. To enhance the experience in the camping shop, there is something for everyone. You could spend hours wandering around on the floors alone, with a wide range of tents, awnings, awnings and camping equipment. There is also a play area for children and a restaurant for a great lunch. After all, a real camping shop is all about experience, and you have to be able to take the time for that.
Expert advice
You can of course easily buy products such as tents and awnings online, but you often want to see and feel a tent before purchasing it. Awnings also always require customization and not every awning simply fits on your caravan or camper. At Obelink, skilled staff will help you make the right choice. Camping products such as camping chairs, tables or technical accessories are also best experienced by assessing them in real life before purchasing them. The drive to Winterswijk is definitely worth it if you want to purchase your camping items.
Repair tips
In addition to sales, Obelink is also strong in providing advice and tips. Did a fiberglass pole break during your holiday or is there a hole in the cloth? Do you have to throw away your nice tunnel tent now? That's not necessary. Obelink is happy to give you some instructions for minor repairs to your tent.
1. Repair fiberglass poles
Has a fiberglass pole broken? Don't worry, because a fiberglass pole is easy to repair. Often you don't even have to buy a new stick, but you can simply replace one segment. For this you use a set of fiberglass pole parts. Some tents already come with a few spare parts and elastic. Obelink has also made a video in which you can see exactly how to repair a fiberglass pole. Check it out on the Obelink website.
2. Minor repairs to canvas
You can also easily repair small tears or holes in your tent canvas yourself. There are special pieces of self-adhesive tent cloth for synthetic materials. You can easily stick this on the damaged area. Obelink advises you to do this on both sides. The self-adhesive cloth is water-resistant and will therefore remain in place in the rain. You can use iron-on tent cloth for cotton tent cloth or mixed fabric cloth. This type of cloth is available in various colors. As the name suggests, you have to apply this with an iron.
3. Minor repair of groundsheets
For groundsheets you can use the same method as for synthetic tent cloth. Do you have a PVC groundsheet? Then you can also repair the spot with a small piece of PVC and PVC glue.
4. Leakage at seams
Do you have a synthetic tent and leakage at the seams? Then use seam sealer. Obelink's advice is to always take seam sealer with you. Seam sealer is liquid and hardens after application. In this way you apply a permanent sealing layer. However, if there is leakage at the seams of a cotton or mixed fabric tent, seam sealer is not the solution. Then use a can with impregnating spray.
5. Leakage on the canvas
Are you experiencing leakage on the canvas? You can also easily solve this problem yourself. Most tents need to be re-impregnated every few years. There are people who do not do this and never have a leak, but it is still advisable to do so, as it certainly cannot do any harm. Are you experiencing leakage? Then it's time to impregnate anyway. For synthetic tents, for example, use synthproof from WME, for cotton tents use Anchor extra and for mixed fabric cloth Pretentine. There are also impregnation sprays available, but if you want to re-impregnate an entire tent in its entirety, the previously mentioned products are better. However, it is useful to have a can of impregnating spray with you in case of emergency.
6. Zipper is stiff
Do you suffer from stiff zippers? Then use dry PTFE spray or silicone spray. After treatment with such a spray, the zipper will run smoothly again. You have to repeat this every now and then if you want the zippers to last a long time. However, be careful not to spray the spray on your tent canvas.
