The Netherlands' pride among Caravans
Jan Kip started a coachbuilding company in Hoogeveen in 1934. In 1947, he built his first caravan for his own use. Due to great interest from private individuals, twenty units could be produced the following year. Some were rented out and the rest were sold without problems. In 1949, the first standard Kip Caravans then rolled off the production line, which were transported by truck to dealers across the country in the 1950s.
In 1954, a new and unique model appeared: the 'Kuiken' (Chick). A small caravan with a striking tailgate. The success of the Kip Kuiken was logically followed up, under the names Kip Leghorn and Kip Wyandotte. After that, Kip developed an even smaller type of caravan called 'Krielkip' (Bantam). The model is particularly striking due to its pop-top roof, enclosed with orange-colored fabric. The basis of this design was reused years later when developing the still successful Kip Kompakt.
In 1961, Jan Kip decided to move his company to a larger plot of land on the industrial estate in Hoogeveen. The production of caravans continued to rise sharply to a remarkable number of no less than 10,000 caravans in 1971. After a number of takeovers by foreign investors, a new course was set in 1981. From that moment on, Kip continued independently. With this new course, the caravan builder focused on 'the top of the market'. Quality caravans that distinguish themselves through design, technology and high-quality materials. In the Netherlands alone, 35,000 Kip Caravans are registered and in use, 26% of which are older than 20 years. A figure that says a lot about the quality of a Kip caravan.
Today, Kip Caravans manufactures a clear range with the Shelter, Compact, Vision and Grey Line models. Caravans in which a lot of tradition has been incorporated in terms of design and quality. The layout, built-in systems and driving characteristics are completely up-to-date.
