Karsten Tents takes over De Waard, together with current board member
Two well-known Dutch tent brands will end up in one group. Karsten Tenten from Zwaag is taking over De Waard Tenten from Hattem from Sunshine Group, including the production facility in the Czech Republic. Willem Wagenaar, already part of De Waard's management, is joining as a buyer.
ZWAAG/HATTEM, September 8, 2026. The parties have reached an agreement on the acquisition. They will not disclose the amount or further financial terms.
Two brands, two locations
For the camper, little will change with the brands themselves. De Waard, known for generations for its cotton tents, will continue to operate from Hattem. Karsten, which built its own position with inflatable tents, will remain in Zwaag. Both brands will retain their own identity and independent position.
What will change is the offering on the shop floor. The assortment of both brands will be available at both locations. Those who visit Hattem will soon also find Karsten there, and vice versa.
Production in the Czech Republic is included
Part of the deal is Sunshine Group's Czech production location. According to the companies, besides sharing knowledge, craftsmanship, and product development, a significant part of the profit from the collaboration lies here: more production capacity that both brands can utilize.

The companies point out that despite their different products, they have much in common, including Dutch craftsmanship and the principle that a good tent should last a lifetime.
Karsten Tenten becomes Karsten Outdoor
The acquisition is part of a broader change in direction at Karsten. The company began last year to transition from tent specialist to a broader outdoor organization. A full rebranding will follow soon: Karsten Tenten will continue as Karsten Outdoor.
New CEO and co-owner
The management is also changing. Owner Marc Takken will be joined by Kevin de Vries, who will take on the role of co-owner and CEO of Karsten Group. De Vries will be responsible for daily management and the further development of the organization.
