Designed for and tested by campers
The Dutch company 'FOLT' has specially designed its electric folding bikes for campers and had them tested by, among others, CamperTV and the AD Bicycle Test, where they passed with flying colors. “We equip all our bikes with a powerful motor, sturdy front suspension and a large battery pack,” says the Folt spokesperson. “This way you can make wonderful day trips and cycle comfortably. Things seem to be going well for FOLT. We see online that the manufacturer is rated by campers with a 9.7 in the independent review database of WebWinkelKeur and Google. Folt itself states that this is due to a combination of their assortment and the fact that it is a Dutch company that produces the bikes in Leusden.
“We offerand five models with different wheel sizes and frames”, says Folt. “The electric folding bikes with 20-inch wheels are the most popular among campers”. They are large enough for longer trips, yet compact enough to easily take with you. Campers often choose a frame with a low step-through, so you can easily get on and off and quickly get your feet on the ground.
In addition, it is important to have sufficient range. Of course, you don't want to run out of power halfway through your bike ride. “A battery must have at least 10 Ampere-hours, or 360 Watt-hours, of capacity.” says Folt. With that, you can cycle about 50 to 60 kilometers under ideal conditions. “Smaller batteries are actually not suitable for campers but are more intended for commuters. You have to pay close attention to that, because some providers offer actually far too small a battery’s and you only find that out afterwards.”
Folt and other brands may be similar, but there are some key differences. Folt assembles the bikes in the Netherlands, while other brands do this abroad. In addition, Folt works without intermediaries. This results in a more favorable price because you do not pay extra costs for the commission of intermediaries.
