Your caravan out of storage: check out our tips

With the arrival of spring, the camping bug bites again. So it's high time to get your caravan out of storage. What should you actually pay attention to when you pick up your caravan? We give you tips.

During winter, not many people go camping. Although winter camping is becoming increasingly popular many caravans still go into winter storage. And that's a good idea, because in covered storage your caravan is protected from all the harsh weather influences of winter. And if you're not using it anyway...

Caravan out of storage

Once you have taken your caravan out of storage, it is wise to check a number of things:

The tires

A sample by BOVAG showed that many caravans and folding campers have outdated tires. Especially after a few months of standing still, it is therefore good to check the condition of the tires. How is the tread? Are the tires not dried out? Do you perhaps see cracks? How is the tire pressure? Don't forget to also check your spare wheel.

Lighting and mirrors

Does everything still work properly? For the lighting, it is best to check with two people whether all lights work and are properly connected. It may be that a light comes on, but the wrong one. So also communicate which light should come on.

Gas and water

Check that all pipes and hoses are still in good condition. Both for the water pipes and the gas installation. Check carefully for any cracks in the hoses. With water, you'll notice it quickly enough, of course, if you let the water flow again and it starts leaking somewhere. Then a pipe burst in the winter. Also, check if you still have enough gas, so you don't run out while camping with your caravan.

And also

Batteries and accumulators: do all batteries still work? For example, those of the mover? Recharge all batteries and replace all batteries where necessary.

The locks: check that all locks still open and close smoothly. You can use graphite powder for this, if it's a bit difficult.

The tow bar: make sure the towbar is clean, remove rust and grease. It's always useful to secure the towbar with a cap when not in use.

Cleaning

Although you probably gave your caravan a good wash in the autumn, it's probably necessary again now. Because your favorite camping vehicle has been stationary for months, it has probably accumulated a nice layer of dust. A wash everywhere and let the cushions air out nicely, so that everything smells fresh again. Also clean the water pipes and water tank thoroughly. This can be done, for example, with the Tank-O3 system.
