Knaus Tabbert GmbH is one of the leading European manufacturers of caravans and motorhomes. With its headquarters in Jandelsbrunn, Germany, it also has branches in Mottgers Sinntal and Nagyoroszi, Hungary. The group is responsible for the brands Knaus, Tabbert, Wilk, T@B, Bavaria Camp and Weinsberg. Top brands that fit perfectly with the Knaus logo, a swarm of upward-flying swallows.
For more than 50 years, Knaus has been making holiday dreams come true. As one of the most successful brands in the industry, first with caravans and for almost 30 years also active in building motorhomes. The Knaus Sky Traveller is the first Knaus motorhome ever made and is still produced today. Albeit now equipped with the most modern techniques but also with a lot of tradition.
The Knaus Tabbert group was formed in 2001 by the merger of Knaus GmbH Jandelsbrunn with a large part of Tiag Tabbert-Industrie AG. Coachbuilder Alfred Tabbert (1908-1973) founded his own company in Schweinfurt in 1934. The architect-engineer Helmut Knaus started a caravan company in Marktbreit in 1960; in 1970 the current Knaus factory in Jandelsbrunn was established. Helmut Wilk, for his part, founded his own company in Bad Kreuznach in 1952, which built its first caravan in 1959. Wilk was acquired by Tabbert in 1986 and in 1987 the holding company Tiag Tabbert-Industrie AG was formed. This went public in 1990. In 1992, it acquired the vehicle construction division of Karrosseriewerke Weinsberg GmbH. Tiag moved production to Mottgers/Sinntal and also built a factory in Hungary, initially to produce Eifelland caravans for the Dutch market.
Since 1996, there has been close cooperation between Tiag and Knaus, resulting in a complete merger in 2001.
In 2009, production in Jandelsbrunn was restarted. The company reached the European top and achieved a turnover of approximately 181 million euros in 2010 with approximately 1,000 employees and a production of approximately 10,400 caravans and motorhomes.
In 2011, Knaus Tabbert acquired the Bavarian motorhome manufacturer Bavaria Camp from Obermeitingen. Knaus Tabbert then also entered into a strategic alliance with the manufacturer of luxury motorhomes Morelo Reisemobile GmbH in Schlüsselfeld. However, these companies continue to operate independently.
Knaus currently offers a balanced range of motorhomes and caravans. The latest development is the first Van TI Plus based on a MAN commercial vehicle in addition to the well-known Ducato III as a chassis.
