Pioneer in Camper Vans
Westfalia Mobil is a German company that builds camper vans based on existing panel vans. The company is located in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, a city in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Westfalia started on October 1, 1844, as a blacksmith shop owned by Johann Bernhard Knöbel. Horses were shod, horse-drawn carriages and coaches were built. In 1927, the Knöbel company delivered its first trailer for a passenger car, and in 1935, the ball coupling was introduced, which is still used worldwide today.
In 1950, a fruitful collaboration with Volkswagen began. Under the name Westfalia, a Camping-box was supplied for the then new Transporter T2 model, with which the Volkswagen van could be temporarily converted from a panel van to a camper. Later, the company also built vans that could permanently serve as campers. Westfalia also built the Volkswagen Fridolin for the car manufacturer from Wolfsburg from 1964 to 1973. From 1952 to 1979, Westfalia also built the cabins for the Unimog.
In 1994, three managers from the region bought the company. Westfalia was then split into three parts:
Westfalia Trailer Group GmbH
Westfalia Van Conversion GmbH
Westfalia-Automotive GmbH & Co. KG.
In 1999, Westfalia Van Conversion GmbH was sold for 49% to DaimlerChrysler, which acquired the remaining 51% in 2001. Part of the production was to be moved to Düsseldorf, but an agreement concluded in 2006 canceled the relocation. In January 2010, the company name changed to CVC-Camping Van Conversion. Subsequently, in November of that year, the company was acquired by the French Rapido group. Under the name Westfalia Mobil GmbH, the brand is again very successful in building attractive camper vans based on a Volkswagen Transporter, Ford Transit, or a Mercedes Vito.

Selling your Westfalia? Here's what to look for

When selling your Westfalia, the model, year of manufacture, and condition primarily determine the asking price. Ensure a complete service history, check the roof and superstructure for moisture, and take clear photos of the interior, kitchen, and layout. Popular camper vans such as the Amundsen, the Columbus, and the Kepler on a VW basis do well on the second-hand market. Compare your price with the current Westfalia offerings and with related brands such as Hymer en Knaus. Place your Westfalia on CampersCaravans and immediately see what similar models are for sale for.
