City trip France: Strolling through Bordeaux
Monumental fountains on the Place de Quinconces, the Cathedral of St André and… the nicest shopping street in the entire region is the Rue des Remparts. You'll find all that in Bordeaux – the wine capital of France.
Bordeaux is a beautiful old city, which has been beautifully restored in recent years. Such as the 18th-century district Port de la Lune, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Another must-do is the Place de Quinconces: the largest square in France and a wonderful place to stroll around or people-watch from a bench.
Nicest shopping street
The Grand Theatre on the Place de Comédie with its enormous columns is definitely worth a visit. Shopaholics swear by the Rue des Remparts which, together with the Rue du pas de St Georges, competes for the title of 'nicest shopping street in Bordeaux'. A nice district to visit is Chartrons, with its antique and curiosity shops where you can browse around. And for those who can't get enough of browsing: the flea market in the Saint-Michel district. It is the enormous variety that makes Bordeaux one of the top city trips of La Douce France.
Great wines
And then we haven't even talked about the great wines from this region. The rolling landscape around the city is full of vineyards where you are more than welcome for a tasting. And of course, you can also do that in the city itself, for example at Le Bar a Vin (address: 3 Cours du Juillet, number 30): a cozy wine bar where you can get acquainted with all the wines of the region.
Campsites as a base
A pleasant campsite as a base is Camping De Bordeaux Village Du Lac, with a shop, modern sanitary facilities, and beautiful pitches around various lakes. From here, a cycling route takes you to Bordeaux, a 5-kilometer ride. Or you can take the bus: the bus stop is 100 meters from the campsite.
A great spot for campers is the motorhome pitch Vignobles Pestoury Yvrac, at Chemin de Tellas 14 in Yvrac. Here you will find five motorhome pitches at a wine farm where you can take fun tours, concluding with – yes, here we go again! – a delicious wine tasting.

Must do
Guinguettes are open-air dance cafes where locals meet, dance, and enjoy good food. Here you can enjoy the joie de vivre and sing along to French chansons.
With the kids
Mirroir d’Eau, directly opposite Place de la Bourse. This is an enormous reflective surface with a thin layer of water. This way, you can relax while your children have a great time.
Must taste
Canelés: small crispy pastries with rum and a creamy vanilla filling. You can order them everywhere, for example, on the terraces along the Garonne – the river that divides the city in two.
