Leavv Camperverhuur: sustainability trumps with the e-Fixxter

Sustainability is hot and Leavv Camperverhuur was one of the first to realize this. With a fleet of electric Fixxter campers, nothing stands in the way of modern campers planning an environmentally conscious holiday. The new e-Peugeot has now proven itself as a fully-fledged camping tool. Range and charging time are also no obstacle for a longer trip through Europe.

Leavv Camper Rental is an initiative of Robbert Goethem who offers 100% electric campers for rental, with which you can experience a trip that is as carefree as it is sustainable. This activity has been taking place since 2021, based on the idea of bringing camper rental as it always was into the present tense. Innovation naturally predominates. With the e-Fixxter, Leavv Camperverhuur was a pioneer in using this electric camper for rental. In addition, Leavv also handles the sales of the Peugeot e-Fixxter and that is going surprisingly well. In the relatively short time that Leavv has been involved in this, the company is responsible for around 60 e-Fixxters on the road with broadly grinning owners behind the wheel. Because a future-proof camper that you can drive to your destination without any problems will automatically make you very happy.

Peugeot e-Fixxter

The e-Fixxter was created in the Netherlands based on the electric Peugeot Expert. The pop-up roof, the interior and the technical installation are of Dutch origin. The bodywork is transformed into a camper by VDL in Born. Also the interior was developed by the Frisian Camperfix. This interior of the Fixxter XXL consists of a cupboard, a compact pantry with two induction burners, an extendable table, RDW-approved sofa bed and plenty of storage options. The XXL version of the e-Fixxter, with a longer wheelbase, offers the option of more cupboard space, a larger kitchen and a larger refrigerator than the standard version allows.

Sleep

The sofa bed is sliding, but what is missing are the usual rails on the floor. This is an advantage both in appearance and in use. A flat floor makes it a lot more cozy inside and cleaning is without the hassle of a gutter where dirt can accumulate. The patented system of the sofa bed transforms into a bed with a width of 120 cm. Thanks to an extension mattress in the cupboard and kitchen, the final width of the sleeping accommodation is a spacious 135 cm. A meager 112,5 cm is common for bus campers in this class. The length of the bed is 200 cm and can be further increased to 210 cm. Ideal for us Dutch who are known as the tallest people in the world. It is also very nice that the bed is completely flat. No pre-formed lumbar supports that dig into your back when you lie stretched out. Operating the bank does require some experience. It also takes away some of the luggage space, but in return you get a flat floor without rails.

A second double bed can also be made up in the pop-up roof. However, without a bunch of children or guests, you are more likely to use this as a storage attic or, folded up, for comfortable standing height. Another summer feature is the option to zip away the canvas to create your own roof terrace.

100% electric is the starting point of the Leavv e-Fixxter, so cooking or heating is done via the battery or shore power. A large area of solar panels is located on the lifting roof, and there is an extra large 200 Ah household battery on board. The optional porta-potti has found a place in a specially made cupboard. Camping off-grid for about three days without any further facilities does not pose any problems.

Range

The range is of course important for any electric car. With the interior, passengers and some luggage, this amounts to an average of 250 km. This may be less in winter, but more in summer. Leavv tenants regularly return with a distance of 300 km to the next charging stop. A large battery pack of 75 kW is responsible for this. Under the floor, this ensures a low center of gravity and associated good road holding.

Charging the batteries can be done via a normal socket at the campsite, for example, but that does take a bit of time. Charging at a public fast charging point is a different story. There are now around 300.000 of them in Europe and here an e-fuelling only takes half an hour. Then the batteries are 80% full again and you can drive another 250 km to the next charging point. This is not great for an overworked courier, but it suits the position as a camper very well. Taking a half-hour break every 250 km is not a punishment, but the advice of VeiligVerkeerNederland to get home in one piece without any accidents. It provides peace and has a relaxing effect, something that fits perfectly with the nature of a camper. Leavv makes this point even better with the option to supply three charging passes with the car that allow you to go to almost all charging stations in Europe.

Driving this e-bus also makes you calm during the ride. Dominating the dashboard is the econometer, which means that you prefer not to go too fast because it will eat away a lot of kilometers from your range. The temperature also plays a role. In winter, at 0 degrees, about 10% of the capacity is reduced. But apart from the range, which is three times greater than a diesel, there are no differences in use and driving behavior. The e-Fixxter behaves approximately the same as an Expert with a 1.5 HDI that delivers 100 HP. It is not a traffic light sprinter, just like all campers it is a van with approximately the maximum load. You won't rush with that, but keeping up with traffic is never a problem. The top speed is over 130 km. Of course the silence is striking. A modern diesel does not make much noise, but you can hear it. That thump is missing from the e-Fixxter, what remains is the sound of the tires on the asphalt and perhaps some wind noise.

The equipment that Leavv Camper Rental provides is complete for four people. You can also book a few useful extras, such as the charging cards mentioned above, a Porta Potti or a barbecue. An awning and outdoor furniture are also standard, and a rug for under the awning has also been considered.

The e-Fixxter is an interesting offer for anyone who wants to continue camping when diesel is unaffordable and is becoming difficult to obtain. The latter is of course not yet the case, but it will become so as soon as fossil cars are banned. Apart from the range, the e-Fixxter does not differ in appearance and use with the same base equipped with a combustion engine. It is visible that this base was not designed from the ground up for an electric drive. Where the diesel used to be under a cover, the systems for the new propulsion have now been installed. That all fits fine, but there is also space that is used less efficiently. This has been adjusted in the latest version of the e-Fixxter, so that the renter or owner of this camper van has a space to store the charging cables, for example. The Fixxter will also continue to develop in other areas in the coming years to keep up with the demands of the time that is yet to come.

Rent

In addition to the ideology of making camper rental greener with sustainable camping equipment, Leavv Camperverhuur has another good reason to rent out electric campers. Maintenance costs are low, depreciation is low and a bad driver cannot, for example, overload cold diesel or abuse a gearbox. With few moving parts, very little can break, something that has already proven itself on the road with the current e-Fixxter. But although electric driving is not new at all, this applies to the application as a camper. The Fixxter is the first series-built electric camper. To experience for yourself how such camping equipment behaves, renting it is a solution. From € 110 per day you will find out with a good chance that your first or next camper will be allowed to enter the environmental zone emission-free. Additional advantage: if you purchase after renting, you will receive the rental amount as a discount on the purchase price.
