Tips for sustainable camping
How do you actually reduce CO2 emissions during your camping holiday? More and more holidaymakers are asking this question. Because nature is precious. And especially when travelling, we enjoy it so much. We have collected some tips so that you too can camp sustainably.
Sustainable camping is already made easy for you if you choose one of the many green campsites. These have invested in environmentally friendly camping in several ways. For example, by using green energy, economical water consumption and environmentally friendly cleaning products. But of course there are also things you can do yourself. Small changes can already make a big difference.
Solar energy
During the summer, there should be plenty of sun. You can make good use of this, because there are all kinds of products on the market that work with solar panels. For example, are you going out with a camper or caravan? It can be valuable to invest in solar panels on your roof. With these, you can even camp self-sufficiently for several days. Handy when you're on the road!
But there are also smart gadgets with which you can charge devices. Think of chargers that work with solar energy. Then watching a movie, listening to your favourite music or reading a book on your e-reader has suddenly become part of sustainable camping. Furthermore, there are all kinds of lamps for sale that charge during the day in the sun and provide a cosy atmosphere around your camper or caravan in the evening. Environmentally friendly and cosy.

On the road: economical driving
Sustainable camping actually starts with how you leave your home. Because you can save a lot of energy there. For example, switch off all appliances, so that they don't consume power for the standby mode either.
And then the journey itself. Although driving with a caravan behind your car or with a somewhat heavy camper can cost quite a bit of extra fuel, you can still drive economically by adjusting your driving style. You do this by driving calmly (about 90 km per hour) and shifting gears as much as possible, so that you always drive at low revs in a high gear. In addition, you drive economically if you choose to drive smoothly, meaning little overtaking, accelerating and braking. Drive at as constant a speed as possible.

At the campsite
Once you arrive at the campsite, there are all sorts of ways to save energy. For example, are you going to make excursions in the area? With an (electric) bicycle, you experience your surroundings optimally. The bicycle is also ideal for groceries in a nearby village. In any case, walking and cycling holidays are perfectly suited if you choose sustainable camping.
When preparing meals, you can easily save on gas by putting a lid on the pan, boiling water in a kettle and storing the remaining hot water in a thermos. Are you going to barbecue? A barbecue causes quite a bit of CO2 emissions. If you really don't want to miss this way of holidaying: there are also electric barbecues for sale. And instead of meat, you can also choose fish, vegetables and vegetarian products.

Keep your surroundings tidy. This is part of camping etiquette, but always make sure your waste is properly cleaned up. This not only makes your fellow campers happy, it's also a good idea for animals. Litter can be dangerous for animals. A good goal: make sure you leave your camping spot tidier than you found it.
When purchasing crockery, you can choose reusable products. This immediately reduces the waste you produce. And for the waste you do have: try to separate it as much as possible and dispose of it correctly.
Sustainable products
You need so many things when you go camping! It seems like a complete household! If you have family, friends or neighbours with a great love for camping, then sharing is a nice, sustainable solution for part of the necessary camping equipment. Think of pans and other kitchen utensils, but also chairs and a camping table. No possibility to share? These items are often also available for rent or second-hand.
Did you know that for many products such as cleaning agents and cosmetics, an environmentally friendly alternative is available? These are often organic products based on vegetable oils. This is not only better for nature, but also for you. By the way, ecological products are also available for your chemical toilet. Please note that even these products should not be released directly into the environment; for example, use the campsite's facilities for wastewater.
