Tips for sustainable camping

How do you actually reduce CO2 emissions during your camping holiday? More and more holidaymakers are asking this question. Because nature is precious. And we enjoy it so much, especially when traveling. We have collected some tips so that you too can camp sustainably.

In any case, sustainable camping has already been made easy for you if you choose one of the many green campsites. They have invested in environmentally friendly camping in several ways. For example, by using green energy, economical water consumption and environmentally friendly cleaning products. But of course there are also things you can do yourself. Small changes can make a big difference.

Solar energy

During the summer there should be plenty of sun. You can make good use of this right away, because there are all kinds of products on the market that work with solar panels. For example, are you going out with the camper or caravan? It can be valuable to invest in solar panels on your roof. This means you can even camp self-sufficiently for a few days. Handy when you're on the road!

But there are also smart gadgets that allow you to charge devices. Consider chargers that work with solar energy. Then watching a movie, listening to your favorite music or reading a book on your e-reader suddenly becomes part of sustainable camping. There are also all kinds of lamps for sale that charge in the sun during the day and provide a cozy atmosphere around your camper or caravan in the evening. Environmentally friendly and cozy.

On the road: economical driving

Sustainable camping actually starts with how you leave your home. Because you can save the necessary energy in this way. For example, switch off all devices so that they do not consume power for standby mode.

And then the journey itself. Although driving with a caravan behind your car or with a somewhat heavy camper can cost quite a bit of extra fuel, you can still drive economically by adapting your driving style. You do this by driving slowly (about 90 km per hour) and shifting gears as much as possible, so that you always drive at low revs in a high gear. In addition, you drive economically if you choose to drive smoothly, i.e. little overtaking, acceleration and braking. Drive at as constant a speed as possible.

At the camping

Once you arrive at the campsite, there are all kinds of ways to save energy. For example, are you going to make trips in the area? With the (electric) bicycle you can experience your surroundings optimally. The bicycle is also ideal for shopping in a nearby village. In any case, walking and cycling holidays are completely suitable if you opt for sustainable camping.

While preparing the meal, you can easily save your gas consumption by putting a lid on the pan, boiling water in a kettle and storing the remaining hot water in a thermos. Are you going to have a barbecue? A barbecue produces quite a bit of CO2 emissions. If you really don't want to miss this way of celebrating holidays: there are also electric BBQs for sale. And instead of meat you can also opt for fish, vegetables and vegetarian products.

Keep your environment tidy.
Keep your environment tidy.

Keep your environment tidy. This is covered anyway camping etiquette, but always make sure that your waste is properly cleared away. This will not only make your fellow campers happy, it is also a good idea for animals. Litter can be dangerous for animals. When purchasing tableware you can opt for reusable products. Then you immediately reduce all the waste you produce. And for the waste you do have: try to separate it as much as possible and dispose of it properly.

Durable products

You need a lot of stuff when you go camping! It looks like a complete household item! If you have family, friends or neighbors with a great love for camping, sharing is a nice, sustainable solution for some of the necessary camping equipment. Think of pans and other kitchen utensils, but also chairs and a camping table. Not able to share? These items are often also available for rent or second-hand.

Did you know that there are environmentally friendly alternatives for many products such as cleaning products and cosmetics? These are often organic products based on vegetable oils. This is not only better for nature, but also for you. There are also ecological products for sale for your chemical toilet. Please note that even these products do not end up directly in the environment, but use the campsite facilities for waste water, for example.
