Tip 1 – Cycling among the asparagus
The 'Aspergeroute Leudal' cycling tour is so beautiful that you can easily cycle those 38 kilometers outside the asparagus season. The route starts in Kelpen-Oler and offers you beautiful panoramic views of the landscape, you smell the scents of the forests. But if you plan your holiday between mid-April and June 24, this cycling route is a succession of asparagus fields and sales points where you can sometimes taste the Queen of Vegetables. And of course there are plenty of lunch stops at restaurants that have asparagus dishes on the menu.

Tip 2 – Birdwatching in De Groote Peel National Park
One of the most unique nature reserves in the Netherlands is De Groote Peel National Park, the smallest national park in the Netherlands. The area is mainly known for the peat extraction that has left its mark on this raised bog area. Open plains are interspersed with water, heathland, birch forests and sand ridges, making this landscape an Eldorado for the more than ninety bird species that choose this area as a breeding ground. From the little grebe to the water rail and from the bluethroat to the stonechat. The best way to visit De Groote Peel is on foot. Many walking routes have been laid out, including over the 'clapper bridges' and from the observation tower you have a beautiful view of the landscape.

Tip 3 – Archaeological finds in Roermond
The Archeo Route Limburg is a special way to get to know the Limburg city of Roermond. The 2.1-kilometer walk takes you past seven archaeological sites and starts – and ends – on the historical circle in the middle of the Markt in Roermond. All you have to do is download the Archeo Route app on your phone. The app tells you the stories behind archaeological finds that remained hidden underground for centuries. You see how people once lived here and between each location you are informed about all sorts of other fun facts about the city.

Tip 4 – Shop till you drop
Our overview would not be complete without Designer Outlet Roermond – it is one of the highlights that has put Roermond on the map. Annually, more than 8 million people visit this shopping paradise. Here you will find about 185 stores of major brands offering designer clothing and other products with discounts of up to 70 percent, 363 days a year (closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day).

Tip 5 – Horse riding in De Meinweg National Park
A covered wagon ride or horse riding through De Meinweg National Park? You'll be talking about it for years to come! The park is located east of Roermond and covers an area of no less than 1,800 hectares: an oasis of peace and green nature with dozens of bridle paths. And on the edge of the nature park is riding school Rijstal Venhof, where you can book guided outdoor rides and covered wagon tours.

Tip 6 – Beer tasting at the city brewery of Weert
De Brouwschuur is the in-house brewery of the Weerter Stadsbrouwerij and here you can taste the most special beers: the Doef van d’n Daeke, for example, Weert dialect for ‘Black Crow’. Or you can try a Bockie Bè, a bottom-fermented bock beer or – hold on tight – the Dae Willich, a heavy hitter with an alcohol percentage of 11 percent. But brewmaster Erwin Strijbosch goes further: he guides other brewers in the brewery, develops recipes for others, and you can even have your own beer brewed here, according to your own recipe.

Tip 7 – Cycling through the Overloon War Museum
This special cycling route (59 km) connects two remarkable places: the German War Cemetery in Ysselsteyn, Limburg, and the War Museum in Overloon, Brabant. This route is special for several reasons: during this tour you cycle through a beautiful rural area that, through impressive stories and beautiful images, gives you different insights into the tensions of the Second World War. You also ride over the new cycling bridge (free) straight through the Overloon War Museum. The cycling route has no fixed start or end point. At various stops, recognizable by a special bench, you look at the liberation operations at that location from a different perspective. Here you not only experience what soldiers went through, but also how civilians emerged from the war. Take your time, sit on the benches, read the war history or experience it yourself via the videos in the Venray Remembers App.

Tip 8 – Boating on the Maasplassen
Renting a boat or relaxing on a round trip: you can do that on the Maasplassen and the Meuse. From the Meuse towns of Maasbracht, Wessem and Thorn you can take a tour boat onto the Meuse, and in Roermond you can take a daily hour-long round trip from the Roerkade in summer. The Maasplassen are a mecca for every water recreationist. You can swim, surf, sail, sup, dive, row or canoe here, and adventurous thrill-seekers can opt for faster water sports such as flyboarding, water skiing or wakeboarding. But doing nothing at all is also an option, on the beautiful day beaches and on the terraces of the trendy beach clubs.

Tip 9 – Dragon Village Beesel
Right on the German border lies the village of Beesel, known for its dragon slaying: an open-air theater spectacle performed once every seven years at Nieuwenbroeck Castle – the oldest known mention dates back to 1736. After the performances, there is a historical parade with a fire-breathing dragon 14 meters long. The last edition of the Dragon Slaying was in 2016; so you will have to wait until the summer of 2023 for new performances. But even without dragon slaying, Beesel is worth a visit, if only for the car-free border crossing where you can cycle through the green landscape to Germany.

Tip 10 – Limburg Open Air Museum Eynderhoof
In the green surroundings of the village of Eind, municipality of Nederweert, lies Limburg Open Air Museum Eynderhoof. Here you will find beautiful historic buildings including a sawmill, an old forge, and a bakery. There is also a farm barn where workshops are given, such as pottery. Interesting is the exhibition 'from stone knife to bronze axe' and one about 'washing and ironing' – you might even learn something! The museum is managed by 375 volunteers who also demonstrate old crafts. This way, you can experience for yourself what life was once like in the Peel.
