Dethleffs Generation: Luxurious newcomer

There's a new series of caravans for 2019: the Dethleffs Generation. There are five layouts to choose from, and the series has immediately been designated as a special edition model. This means the caravan comes with luxurious extras – just put in a gas bottle and you're ready for your holiday.

Of the five layouts, the 465 EL and the 465 FR are particularly interesting for Dutch campers. The first features a round seating area and single beds, which can be converted into a large double bed of almost two by two meters with an extension piece. For this test, however, we are looking at the second: the 465 FR. Also with a round seating area but with the immensely popular French bed.

Dethleffs Generations

Exterior Dethleffs Generation

The Generation comes standard with a hail-resistant roof and smooth exterior plating. The alloy wheels give the caravan a sporty look. The streamlined rear bumper, which comes from Dethleffs' top series: the Exclusiv, is a nice touch. The large chrome maneuvering handles look robust and contribute to the chic appearance of the Generation. Two service hatches ensure easy access to your holiday luggage. The 70-centimeter wide entrance door and the lowered step are special – making entry nice and easy.

Living, cooking and sleeping

When you step into the caravan, you immediately notice that the furniture is not in the usual wood colors – they are almost entirely absent. Instead, a modern gray tone has been chosen, which changes color in the upper cabinets, suggesting a beautiful shadow effect. In combination with the indirect lighting, this creates a pleasant atmosphere, especially in the evening. The Generation features a round seating area with luxurious upholstery. The back cushions are in two colors, and we see contrasting curtains at the windows.

The 465 FR features a spacious round seating area with the kitchen immediately next to it, equipped with a large refrigerator (142 liters). A hob with three gas burners and a sink (with glass cover plates) are integrated into the kitchen counter. Under the worktop, we find three drawers spanning the full width of the kitchen: plenty of storage space. The 465 FR has a French bed running lengthwise. The slanted foot end ensures a smooth passage to the bathroom area, where we do find wood colors on the cabinet doors. We see plenty of storage space, a small washbasin with a mirror. The lockable toilet has an easy-to-clean bench toilet, and you can also shower in the same space if desired: a shower curtain prevents everything from getting wet.

Technology

Water pipes, the warm air hoses of the heater, and the electrical wiring are neatly concealed in the Generation. A Truma Combi 4 provides heating and hot water. Within this series, 'Scandinavia' versions are also available, specifically for winter: with Alde liquid heating and underfloor heating.

Conclusion Dethleffs Generation

With the Generation, Dethleffs developed a completely new caravan series between the existing Camper and Nomad series. Immediately upon its introduction, the Generation was upgraded to a special edition model packed with options, allowing you to go on holiday right away. The almost complete absence of wood tones is a bold step – within the caravan industry – and a successful one, as it gives the caravan a modern and contemporary look.
