Hobby Maxia: Luxury and comfort in a homely atmosphere
A caravan that brings the atmosphere and luxury of home with it. That was at the top of Hobby's wish list. With the new Maxia caravans that resulted from this, that goal has certainly been achieved. Moreover, the Hobby Maxia is winter-proof, you can easily go out with it when the temperature drops below zero. For the 2022 season, the caravan is available in two different models, the 495 UL and 660 WQM.
The new Hobby Maxia series is the successor to the Premium Line, currently the top model of this German caravan builder. This means that the price at first glance is quite substantial. But if you look at what you get for it, the price is well balanced with the build quality, the innovative design and added luxury in addition to an abundance of comfort. So a lot of caravan for a price that goes with it.
Homely and cozy
Hobby's Premium caravans have a luxurious appearance that in some respects borders on the extravagant. This is less the case with the new Hobby Maxia caravans. Not that luxury is sacrificed, but it all looks just a bit more homely. This is easy to explain. Hobby's design team was inspired by the Danish word hygge, Scandinavian for coziness or conviviality. However, it never becomes an Ikea-like showroom. It actually results in a timeless and refined interior styling in which you can simply continue living when you leave home, but then at the campsite.
Scandinavian design
The interior of the new Maxias is actually dominated by nothing. The furniture panels do stand out, but with a calm light wood design, in combination with expertly curved white cabinet doors. Most of the perpendicular walls are made in anthracite, so that these are also not optically so present. You can't ignore it, with the Maxia, the German Hobby has looked powerfully across the Northern border. That might have been a smart move by the marketing department, because Hobby does not yet have such a large market share in Scandinavian countries such as Denmark and Sweden. That must of course change with a caravan series tailored to the Northern taste.
Hobby Maxia 495 UL
For the first season in 2022, the Maxia caravans are available in two models. The 495 UL is the smaller one with an overall length of 7.20 m, a width of 2.30 m and a technically permissible total mass of 1500 kg. Empty but ready to drive, the 495 UL weighs 1297 kg. The layout can also be found in other Hobby series, such as the Prestige, Luxe and Excellent. In this Maxia, there is also a comfortable round seating area where four people can find a place without getting in each other's way. In the middle is the bathroom with a toilet. Next to it is a wardrobe and on the other side the kitchen. Nicely equipped with a Slim-Tower refrigerator, 3-burner gas stove on a black glass plate and a sink with the same lid. In the front, the Maxia offers two single beds of 1.93 m long. This makes getting in and out easy. A double bed, with a length of 2.04 m, can be made in the front of the seating area, bringing the number of sleeping places to four.
Hobby Maxia 660 WQM
The 495 UL is, of course, a beautiful premium caravan. The 660 WQM, however, leaves it far behind. Hobby itself promotes the Maxia 660 as a holiday apartment on wheels. Four, to be precise, as it is a tandem axle. With approximately 20 m2 of living space, there is an incredible amount of room available. The caravan is equipped with a generous transversely placed queen-size bed with an adjoining bathroom. Of course, a toilet and washbasin, but also a separate shower cabin. Made possible by utilizing the entire width at the back for the sanitary facilities. The L-shaped kitchen is placed at the front. Plenty of workspace is particularly striking. The large window and the even larger roof hatch above it bathe it in a sea of light. The sink area is placed against the side wall and is slightly lowered. A light strip in the height difference between the worktops is an example of how the designers have dealt with details. A spacious round seating area is placed against the left side wall with a view of a flat-screen TV. You can also convert this into a second bed.
Winterproof
These new Hobby caravans are suitable for all seasons without compromising on comfort. The Maxia 660 comes standard with a Truma Combi 6. If you plan to go skiing, the optional ALDE heating is a good option. With liquid in radiators, this even better matches the comfort of home.
The Hobby Maxia 660 WQM measures 8.30 in length and the caravan is 2.50 meters wide. Ready to drive without luggage, it weighs 1710 kg, the technically permissible weight is 2 tons. Both Maxia models are caravans from the top segment. The price reflects this. The Maxia 495 UL starts from € 32,800. The price of the Maxia 660 WQM starts at € 41,850.
