iCamp folding caravan: 100% Dutch made

It takes no more than 28 seconds to set up the iCamp. Then you can unfold your chair and click on the coffee machine for a fresh cup of coffee. It's not a caravan, it's not a trailer tent: it's… a folding caravan. Made in Holland.

It takes half a minute to set up the iCamp. Nothing more nothing less. It was one of the ideas that Hans Udo had when he came up with his iCamp folding caravan. Comfort and convenience. And: he wanted something different from the average trailer tents he saw at campsites. Hundreds of sketches followed, followed by models made of Styrofoam and wood. When he met polyester specialist Robert van Eekeren, we clicked immediately. In 2016 they founded Udo Camp and in 2017 the first folding caravan made its debut at the fairs.

Exterior iCamp

Beautiful lines. That is the first thing you notice when you look at the 4,34 meter long, polyester wagon body. The round 'butt' and the integrated rear lights give the iCamp a designer appearance. The folding caravan is built on an Al-Ko chassis and with a width of 1,75 cm, even the narrowest Italian roads are no problem. The vehicle has a 60 liter trunk and is equipped with two service hatches on the right side: one for camping furniture, the other provides space for the extendable kitchen, which can be used both indoors and outdoors.

At the front, the polyester lifting roof is equipped with an integrated roof rack for extra luggage or a few bicycles. Smart: the lifting roof can be operated electrically with the supplied remote control. In 28 seconds the roof rises together with the pre-assembled tent made of Ten Cate canvas. If you also want to install an awning or awning (optional), pause the lifting process briefly to attach the top of the awning/awning to the rail - then the roof can then be raised further and setting up is a piece of cake.

Interior iCamp

Of the body length (4,34 metres), 3,70 meters of living space remains: at the rear, quite a few centimeters are taken up by the trunk, which is modeled on passenger cars. Inside we see a comfortable round seat at the rear; There is a bench mounted at the front that can also be used as a sleeping place. The pull-out kitchen is hidden under that sofa: we see a four-burner gas stove, a sink with electric tap and a 40-liter cool box with a lid. On nice days you can also cook outside: when extended, an extra leg supports the outdoor kitchen. Round seating and sofa provide seating for 6 to 8 people and you can convert both seating groups into beds. With some improvisation you can effortlessly travel with the whole family.

Technical installations

One of the most striking installations is the electrically operated lifting roof. Two columns push the roof up in less than half a minute - Udo Camp is so convinced of the system that it offers a 10-year warranty. On board we see a 12 Volt battery with trickle charger and on the options list there is a choice of an electric heater or even a parking heater. On board we see three 230 Volt sockets and no fewer than six USB sockets – many caravan and camper manufacturers can follow this example.

Conclusion test iCamp

The iCamp looks nothing like the folding caravans of the past, such as the Esterel – which, incidentally, was equipped with 'hard' walls instead of tent canvas. The flowing lines at the rear, the sleek polyester work, the special lifting roof construction, the smart slide-out kitchen: it indicates that the car has been well thought out. With a starting price of more than 15 grand, Udo Camp positions its folding caravan in the upper class, between the folding caravans of Holtkamper and the 'real' touring caravans of the established order.
