Sprite Cruzer 635 SR: Flagship full of surprises
Sprite caravans come from the Swift factories in Great Britain. What makes them special is not only the typically 'British' layout, but also the equipment level. With the Cruzer 635 SR, Sprite introduces a country house on wheels, with an interesting price level.
The Cruzer 635 SR is an almost 8 meter long tandem axle with a width of 2,44 meters: literally and figuratively, this is the flagship of the British manufacturer. The caravan is packed with all kinds of options and at a very competitive price, especially if you compare it with German competitors.
A striking appearance
The Cruzer has a striking appearance, with its largely black front. A large three-piece front window is mounted in the high-gloss snout, with the panoramic skylight immediately above it. Together they provide a lot of daylight into the caravan interior and an additional roof hatch is mounted on the roof above the living area.
Solid polyester
The front, back and side walls are made of sturdy polyester and the base plate also has a polyester protective layer on the underside: excellent protection against splashing water and stone chips. You will not find wooden frames to give the caravan strength anywhere: Sprite was one of the first manufacturers to use sustainable plastics in its caravans. Of course, the roof is also made of polyester: good protection against hail.
The rear wall of the Cruzer has integrated taillights and maneuvering handles. You won't easily use the latter, because a caravan of this size calls for a caravan mover. And one that is suitable for tandem axles, because the total mass of the 635 SR – 1.900 or optionally 2.000 kg – is supported by a tandem axle chassis with four alloy wheels. The Cruzer has a drawbar cover, the spare wheel is on a carrier under the chassis and the caravan is equipped with an AL-KO AKS 3004 stabilizer.
living area
When we look in through the door, we notice the enormous amount of daylight. The front window, panoramic skylight and roof hatch are mounted almost flush, which provides plenty of light into the living area. We see a typical British layout with two longitudinal sofas, with a coffee table in between, at the very front, with storage space in drawers. The sofas can be pushed together to create a second double bed, with spacious dimensions: 228 x 163 cm. So you can possibly even accommodate three (grand)children there.
The three-piece front window is typical of English caravans and this also applies to the kitchen, which is equipped with the indispensable for British stove with oven and grill, where you can make toast. The kitchen is also equipped with a microwave at eye level and a narrow, high 133 liter Dometic refrigerator that is placed directly next to the entrance door.
Large bathroom
The surprises follow after the kitchen, because behind a large door we find the large bathroom, with a large shower on the left and a (swiveling) toilet with sink and storage furniture on the right. With the door closed you have plenty of privacy in the bathroom.
The next door leads to the bedroom, where a so-called queen bed is placed transversely in the room, with the headboard against the left side wall. You can walk all the way around the bed, which makes getting in and out much easier - so you don't have to climb over each other during a nighttime visit to the toilet. On either side of the headboard we see hanging cupboards for clothing and there are plenty of cupboards on the ceiling. In terms of styling, a light wood color was chosen, combined with cream wall cabinets in the kitchen and matching upholstery for furniture and curtains. And also pay attention to the splashback behind the kitchen and the window cover in the bedroom: it gives the Cruzer a modern, contemporary look.
Installations
Sprite caravans are known for their extensive standard equipment and that is also reflected in this flagship. Such as the well-equipped kitchen and the audio system with speakers with which you can also stream your own music. The Cruzer is also equipped with the Swift Command System with which you can operate many installations and check the water supply. A Truma Combi 4 provides (ring) heating and hot water - given the size of the caravan, we would have preferred to see a Combi 6, and preferably the 6-E version, so that you can not only heat with gas but also on 230V.
Conclusion Sprite Cruzer 635 SR
Sprite Cruzer 635 SR is a more than complete caravan from the top segment, with an excellent construction, good finish and excellent equipment. The flagship has serious dimensions and that requires a serious caravan tractor that must be able to tow at least 1.900 kilos. With a starting price of just over 30 grand, you really get a lot of caravan for your money.
