France: get a breath of fresh air in La Manche
La Manche, that is the name of a peninsula in Normandy, the western part of which is affectionately called the Côte des Isles. And not without reason, because from here the ferries sail to the Channel Islands. Great for a mini-cruise!
The La Manche peninsula is a wonderful summer destination for a breath of fresh air where you can enjoy cycling. From Blainville-sur-mer, follow the coastline north, towards Portbail. A mostly flat route that can also be done with Dutch calves.

Cycle route Voie Verte
You cycle through charming villages with stone houses and white shutters, and in Lessay you can follow the Voie Verte: a cycle route on an old railway line. Rails and sleepers have made way for smoothed paths. Also dirt paths, by the way, such as near Portbail: a beautiful village with restored houses. Nearby you can also spot birds at the inland lake. Here you also notice the tides of the Atlantic Ocean, because at spring tide the cycle path is under water.
The nice thing about such a coastal route is that you come across charming restaurants everywhere, with fresh fish on the menu. And Fruits de Mer of course: generous platters with fresh shellfish and crustaceans. And what about oysters: you stumble upon one oyster farm after another here, where you can also taste this delicacy.

Trip to England
From your French holiday, you can easily make a trip to England with two hops, skips, and jumps. Or, more specifically: to the island of Jersey. The ferry departs from the port town of Carteret and within an hour you are on British soil. Although it still feels quite French when the lavender fields are blooming. And the Phare de Corbière doesn't sound very British, we'll just say.
But the lighthouse on the most south-westerly point of the island is a nice destination. If only to see how the waves spread out on the sharp rocks. A walk has been set out at the lighthouse, the Corbière Walk. Just like on the mainland, you follow the route where a local train used to run, past tropical plants and pine trees. In the south of the island you will find Beau Bay, an almost tropical oasis with a beautiful sandy beach and an azure blue sea – you have to see it to believe it.
