AL-Ko: hybrid technology for campers

The AL-KO Vehicle Technology Group has been working on the development of an electric drive for campers for more than ten years. For example, the company presented the Electric Power Chassis for the electric camper in 2010. The concept is now almost ready for production.

One of the challenges of an electric drive at the moment is the limited range. One of the reasons why campers will not yet exchange their diesel for an electric camper. AL-KO currently has two irons in the fire that contribute to a solution to this problem. The HPC chassis, or the Hybrid Power Chassis, for an electric camper.

In fact, this is an AL-KO light chassis equipped with the necessary batteries that take over part of the drive. For example, the van or camper can run on diesel outside built-up areas, but switch to electric propulsion as soon as the city has an environmental zone. This works on the rear axle. The diesel engine on the front axle. The electric drive has a peak power of 124 kW and can be switched on at any time. Depending on the battery pack you choose, you can travel about 50 to 100 kilometers on the electric drive alone. The HPC chassis is scheduled to go into series production before the end of 2023.
