Winter tires 205/65 R16 C Tested
The ANWB tested summer tires for vans for the first time last summer. The tires that you also encounter on passenger vans, campers and caravans. For a commercial vehicle, wear resistance, consumption and of course load capacity count. Yet with tires, improving one property almost always comes at the expense of the other. Of the 16 tires tested, only five received a passing grade. No fewer than 9 bands ended up with just a single star. With this result in mind, the ANWB has now also tested winter tires for vans.
At first glance, the results for winter tires do not look very different from summer tires. In the end, only 3 of the 15 winter tires tested remained with a sufficient rating of 3 stars. The rest scores below average. This means that there is only a limited choice of tires in this segment for winter tires that perform well under all conditions.
On average, a winter tire for vans only lasts half as long as a summer tire. In order for the tires to provide grip on wet and snowy roads for a given load capacity, wear resistance and grip on dry roads are compromised. Many cars have a delayed response to steering commands and it takes longer for the car to become stable again after a maneuver. It then feels a bit woolly and vague.
Winter tire test conclusion
There are only 3 tires that the ANWB can recommend for vans, they score sufficiently. There were no really good tires and the majority were classified as insufficiently safe or not safe at all.
