Chausson 640 Titanium Ultimate: An Overcomplete Space Wonder

Chausson 640 Titanium Ultimate: An Overcomplete Space Wonder

If you are looking for a lot of space, the Chausson 640 Titanium Ultimate is one that offers it. The 2023 model offers an incredibly spacious interior with a length of 6,99 m. Living room, kitchen, bathroom, garage, a walk-in closet and an XL fold-down bed that is no less than a fixed one, make this generation of compact semi-integrated campers the next level in space and comfort. In the Titanium Ultimate series, the new 640 stands out because of the multitude of standard extras that are not reflected in the attractive pricing.

Chausson is a renowned French A-brand with a rich history. Started 100 years ago as a bodybuilder for passenger cars, Chausson has grown over the last 30 years to become one of the most important manufacturers of campers with a strong image of comfort and quality. Like no other, Chausson knows how to make optimal use of the space in a camper with a surprising layout. Alcoves and semi-integrated vehicles are designed and produced in Tournon sur Rhône, in the heart of the vineyards of the Vallée du Rhône. Approximately 5.000 campers leave this Chausson factory every year, making it the largest production facility for campers in Europe. Integral motorhomes and bus campers are also manufactured in our own factory, making Chausson a brand that you cannot ignore in your search for the ideal camper.

Ford base

The new Chausson Titanium 640 is based on a Ford Transit. Naturally equipped with the latest technology to keep fuel consumption and emissions to a minimum. The 2.0L Tdci engine delivers 170 HP, making it easy to perform a quick overtaking maneuver. A camper broad-track chassis is used for optimal road holding. Almost all safety-enhancing driver assistance systems complete the driving pleasure. The multimedia system also contributes greatly to this. A tablet as standard for operating the reversing camera, DAB radio or other apps that you can mirror from your smartphone with Apple Carplay, Android Auto or Mirrorlink. Built-in navigation is prepared, but Google also offers an excellent service when connected to your smartphone.

Standard automatic

A standard automatic gearbox makes the Titanium series an exclusive product. Even if you have never driven this before, you will never want to do anything else again within minutes. The 6-speed gearbox always selects the right gear when starting, in the city or on the highway. This transmission with learning ability means that the camper actually behaves just like a passenger car, with a lot of driving comfort on all types of roads.

Outside

The new Titanium Chausson has hail-resistant polyester plating so that bad weather cannot cause damage. The taupe side walls and dark tinted windows give it a chic appearance. The camper is locked with a central remote control that also blocks access to the body. In addition to the service hatches, there are two access doors to the garage where a table and chairs can be stored rattling-proof. The new 640 is equipped with quite a few goodies to make your stay at a campsite or camper place as pleasant as possible. For example, there is a connection for an outdoor shower or a gas connection for a grill or barbecue, which keeps it nice and fresh inside when you prepare a nice steak or tasty fish.

The layout

The interior of the Chausson Titanium 640 is an attractive combination of space, comfort and efficiency. Above the cabin, an opening skylight provides extra light and ventilation. Two longitudinal sofas with a table in between form the smart lounge. A good name because when the two pilot seats are rotated, a U-shaped seat is created without the slightly cramped feel of the train seat in many other campers. The benches can be converted in no time to two belted places with Isofix. When you need to sleep, the seating area can be transformed into a double sleeping place with a filler piece and some extra pillows. The Chausson also has a spacious double pull-down bed that you can set to half-height if you need four sleeping places. If you are with two people, the pull-down bed can be lowered to the sofa, making entry just as easy as with a fixed bed. A staircase is then not necessary. Only the table needs to be lowered for this, the back cushions of the seating area can remain in place. Both the pull-down bed and the table are electrically operated, so taking out the bed requires no effort at all.

The kitchen

The central kitchen has a 2 burner gas stove. Often there are three, but you may wonder why. The stove in this Chausson offers space for two large pans while there is still work space on the kitchen counter. Next to the sink there is a fold-out section for storage. The full-size refrigerator with separate freezer compartment completes the culinary experience.

The bathroom

The sanitary facilities are the jewel in the layout of the new Chausson. This is placed at the back of the structure over the entire width. This creates a sink and toilet with separate shower with dimensions and freedom of movement that would be the envy of a much larger camper. The bathroom can be closed with a roller door. In high-gloss white, it looks like a fully-fledged interior part when closed. You have plenty of storage space in the bathroom. A large and smaller medicine cabinet for small items and a deep cabinet in the wall behind the toilet for toilet rolls, for example. A side window provides ventilation while showering. However, that doesn't stop the surprises in the bathroom. A sliding door provides full access to the spacious garage. There is no need to walk outside to grab something. You can access everything from the inside. There is a walk-in closet above this entrance door. This is at chest height, so literally walking in is not possible. However, with shelves, six large drawers and a hanging area, the cupboard offers the usefulness and experience of a real walk-in closet.

On the road

If you enjoy driving a camper, you will have plenty of fun in this Ford. Compared to a Ducato you sit a little lower. The cabin is also slightly narrower on paper, but you don't notice that. With 170 HP, the engine picks up speed nicely, and the 6 speeds of the automatic transmission complete the party. It was quite frosty during the test drive, but the hardy Chausson, with heated tanks, iso blanket for the cabin and an economical diesel heater, had no problem with that.

The Dealer

Fobbe Campers is one of the better-ranged providers in the Netherlands. Started in 2003 with the sale of campers, mainly in the competitively priced range, Fobbe has grown to sales of approximately 250 campers per year. On an area of approximately 8000 m2, which is of course always too small, there is a permanent stock of around 50 units, both used and brand new. Because over the years, Fobbe's focus on low-priced campers has shifted to the middle class and the higher segment. This shift to the more luxurious and more recent offerings has earned Fobbe a dealership in Chausson Campers, making the sale of new campers the most important part of the complete package of services that Fobbe Campers has to offer the Dutch camper.

Fobbe supplies the new Chausson Titanium Ultimate 640 from stock for those who want to drive fast. The other 2023 Chausson models are also ready to go, waiting for a new owner.
