Dethleffs e-Home Coco: electrically powered caravan

Dethleffs e-Home Coco: electrically powered caravan

The street scene is changing: there are more and more electric cars on the road. Not surprising, because an electric car is better for the environment than a car with a petrol or diesel engine. Going on holiday with an electric car was still a challenge, especially with a caravan behind it. Until now: Dethleffs comes with an electric caravan.

Our blog already contains several articles about electric camping. This is how we wrote about the e-Fixxter; the first electric camper in the Netherlands or across the country Nissan e-NV200 Winter Camper. But we also wrote about electric barbecues with the E-Braai. In this article you can read everything about the electrically powered e-Home Coco.

Electric drive

The e-Home Coco is a caravan that drives itself electrically. The caravan also has its own two battery packs. Each battery pack has a capacity of 40 kWh. The engines each have a peak load of 54 hp, with which they support the towing car. Where a normal caravan has a normal axle, the e-Home Coco has a central housing with two electric motors. The caravan can be charged at a CCS charging point.

Latest technologies

The caravan has the latest technologies. The caravan has more than 700 data points that make driving the caravan safe. With the help of these types of points, the caravan can, for example, react itself when braking.

Another advantage of the caravan is that, due to its own propulsion, it feels like it weighs less than a regular caravan. So there is no feeling of 1800 kilos on the car, but, according to Dethleffs, only 100 kilos.

The caravan has everything a normal caravan has. For example, the e-Home Coco has a large lounge area, which can easily be converted into a double bed.

In the test

The concept model was taken on an adventure as a test. During this adventure the caravan was towed by an Audi E-tron. With one full battery charge, the caravan covered almost 400 km. After this, the caravan's battery still had 21% power, while the E-tron's battery still had 19% power.

As mentioned earlier, the caravan is still in the concept phase. However, Dethleffs wants to launch a production model on the market within three years.
