Can you park your camper or caravan in front of the door?

Immediately before or after your holiday, it is very nice if you can leave the camper or caravan at your door for a while. Of course you have a lot to load and unload during your camping holiday. Did you know that in most municipalities there is a rule about the parking period? Useful to know, especially if you don't want to get a fine.

Just tidy up or organize everything before your holiday starts. Or take out all the stuff again and clean it, so that your camper or caravan is completely ready for winter storage. Then it is ideal if he can stand in front of the door for a while.

APV

In most municipalities in the Netherlands you are allowed to park your camper or caravan on public roads for a maximum of three days. Sometimes it is longer, sometimes shorter, it varies per municipality. If you exceed the maximum parking time, you risk a fine. An unpleasant start or end to your holiday. Are you curious how long you can park in your street? This is stated in the General Local Ordinance (APV) of your municipality.

This regulation is drawn up by municipalities so that the view of the public road is not limited and/or there is no long-term increase in parking pressure. This also applies to other vehicles, such as trailers and trailer tents.

Don't move either

If you think cleverly that you can extend this period by moving your camper or caravan a few places, then you are wrong. This involves using public roads, regardless of where the caravan or camper is located. This rule is not always strictly adhered to. The municipality usually only takes action if local residents complain, or if it is really disruptive to the environment. In these cases you may receive a fine, or your camper or caravan may even be towed away.

Different rules

In addition to this rule about parking on public roads, there are additional rules for parking your camper or caravan. For example, if you park on your own property. For example, the APV may state that the camper or caravan must be located behind the 'rear building line' of your driveway. If you live in a city, you may need a parking permit for your camping equipment. This only applies to the caravan if you have it standing alone. If your caravan is connected to your car, you do not have to pay extra parking fees.

Is your camper not only your camping equipment, but also your daily means of transport? Then you also pay full road tax and you can simply park in front of the door. However, the APV may also contain a requirement here, especially regarding the maximum size and width permitted therein.
