Driving at a pace of 100 with a caravan: Switzerland is over

In Switzerland you can drive a caravan at a speed of 1 kilometers per hour from January 100. The Tempo 100 rule will apply to caravans up to 3500 kilos. An inspection or yet another sticker is not necessary, as is necessary in sticker-loving Germany to speed along the Autobahn with a caravan.

Please note the type approval

Switzerland therefore comes with good news for caravan owners. Following in the footsteps of our eastern neighbors, you will suddenly make more progress when you visit these countries on a caravan holiday. Until now this was 80 kilometers per hour. Even better is that no additional inspection is considered necessary. There is also no need to stick an obligatory sticker. This is mandatory in order to be allowed to drive 100 km with your caravan in Germany. The rule will apply on the Swiss Autobahnen and Autostrassen. However, the caravan must meet a number of technical conditions. The caravanner is responsible for this.

tires

Firstly, you need to take into account the maximum towing weight of the car. Of course you cannot exceed that. In addition, the mounted tires must be able to handle the speed. This can be read from the last letter of the tire designation: For example, the sidewalls of the tire contain the following code: 185/60 R 12 C 104/101 N. In this example, the letter N stands for up to 140 kilometers per o'clock. Other indications are:

F up to 80 km/h

G up to 90 km/h

J up to 100 km/h

K up to 110 km/h

L up to 120 km/h

M up to 130 km/h

N up to 140 km/h

The tires are therefore compliant from the letter J onwards. You can also use this list, which is a bit longer, to determine whether you can drive on the road in Italy with winter or all-season tires in the summer. In winter we don't drive as fast and the speed indication doesn't matter so much. In summer, the Italians require that the tires be suitable for the maximum speed of the vehicle. So if your Lamborghini camper can reach 300 km/h, the tires must be able to handle that. Then everything is confiscated when you make that attempt.

To further comply with the Swiss Tempo 100 rules, the maximum speed of the caravan specified by the manufacturer must be found. This is stated on the type approval. If you cannot find it, you can also ask the dealer of the brand. If it is set to 100 kilometers per hour, the caravan meets the technical conditions. However, it is useful to be able to prove this if requested. German speaking hermandad is usually fair but strict in all cases.
