Van Bike 2: the ultimate bicycle carrier for bus campers

Bicycles and campers make a happy marriage. Doing some shopping or exploring the area while your awning can remain open is part of the camper fun. However, the transport of the bicycles is a point of attention. Particularly for bus campers where the rear doors must be able to open without having to dismantle a complete bicycle shed. PLA Campers from Noordijk therefore introduces the Van Bike 2 bicycle carrier. A winner in ease of use and durability without putting excessive strain on the rear doors.

Standard bicycle carriers are suitable for standard bicycles. However, with the increasing popularity of E-bikes, there is not much left of that standard, electric bicycles are a lot heavier and the carrier must be prepared for that. That is not a problem because they are widely available. However, how to attach the increased weight to the camper is a different story.

Usually two pieces of profile are mounted on one door of a bus camper on which the bicycle carrier hangs. The disadvantage of this is that you load the door in a way that the designer of the bodywork never took into account. This can result in excessive wear on the hinges or a door that hangs out of alignment. Significant damage after a speed bump that you did not see is also not unlikely.

From bike 2

The Van Bike 2 takes a different approach. The base of the bicycle carrier, tailor-made for all popular brands of bus campers, is not mounted on the door, but on the C-pillar of the body. A place that the car's designers can make peace with. This means that the hinges of the door are not subjected to additional strain, as the Van Bike 2 has its own hinges. The base is made of thick-walled powder-coated aluminum tubes. Very strong and lightweight at 25kg. The bicycle carrier can carry a load of up to 80kg.

Ease of use

In use, the Van Bike 2 is an extremely pleasant companion. You loosen the locking pin and the carrier swings out super smoothly. You can then open the doors of the bus camper as you normally would. The carrier sits at a height that cannot touch the ground when you drive onto a ferry, for example. But not so high that charging the bicycles is difficult. If the camper has a tow bar, you can still use it. Furthermore, the protrusion of the system is minimal. If you do not have any bicycles to transport, fold up the carrier and the camper will be only a few centimeters longer than without the Van Bike 2.
