Where you take 10,000 steps
Shoes on, out the door. It doesn't have to be more than that. Yet that step outside does more for you than you think: the brain clears up, the muscles loosen up and the daily noise fades away on its own. Hart van Limburg is launching the campaign today ‘Where you take 10,000 steps‘, which runs until November 1st and shows why Midden-Limburg is so well-suited for taking those steps while walking.
Walking is moving without it feeling like moving. No sports schedule, no time you have to beat. Just walk, and notice your head getting emptier while your legs do the work. Research into the effects of walking time and again points in the same direction: it lowers stress, improves night's sleep and keeps heart and muscles supple. In Midden-Limburg, this happens almost automatically.
A region that attracts
Forests, heathlands, river valleys and the Maas are so close together here that one step flows effortlessly into the next. Via the walking junction network, you determine how far you go: a loop after breakfast, or a tour that goes well beyond 10,000 steps. Along the way, you alternate nature with city: in the morning into the green, in the afternoon through the streets of Roermond and Weert or the white town of Thorn.
With the app from Archeo Route Limburg and Erfgoed Route Limburg, you visit places where a story unfolded centuries ago, told exactly where it happened. In the Cuypershuis in Roermond, the exhibition 'Van Maker tot Majesteit' (From Maker to Majesty) can be seen this autumn, with the Royal Throne from Prinsjesdag back in the place where it was designed over a century ago.
And for those who prefer not to do anything after their walk: a salt cave, a float session or a terrace in a historic city center are within walking distance of each other here.

'Movement and rest are simply next to each other here'
“We don't want to tell people that they have to move, but let them feel what it does to you,” says Cyriel Hendrix, strategic manager at Hart van Limburg. “Ten minutes of walking is enough to calm your head. Here you don't have to make an effort for it: nature, the water and the stories along the way do the work for you.”
The campaign will be visible everywhere this autumn. On social media, there is an advertising campaign that leads visitors directly to the routes and the offerings. Provincially, Hart van Limburg is collaborating with De Limburger and L1, nationally with Wandel.nl, Wandelmagazine and Wandelnet. A number of walking influencers will also showcase the region this autumn, each from their own route and story.
Rewarding
Anyone who signs up for the newsletter at hartvanlimburg.nl by November 1st will automatically have a chance to win various food/step packages and the grand prize: an overnight stay for two people at B&B d’n Engel.
