Trade safely online: view our tips

Despite the winter period, sales of campers and caravans are still higher at this time of year compared to other years. Are you also looking for a new camper or caravan? Or do you want to sell your beloved camping equipment? We give you a number of tips for safe online trading.

Due to the increasing popularity of camping, the number of camper and caravan sales is also increasing. It is important to remain alert when purchasing or selling. Naturally, you want to do everything you can to prevent something from going wrong.

Not credible

Some advertisements are too good to be true. Is a camper or caravan offered for a very low price? And is it in perfect condition? Then think twice. There is a good chance that something is wrong with the advertisement. This could, for example, be the lack of papers or damage that is not mentioned in the advertisement.

Pay in advance

In some cases you will be asked to first make the payment, or part of it, and then make an appointment to view the vehicle. Do not do this. Only pay after you have actually seen the vehicle in person. This way you won't be faced with any surprises.

It may also happen that the camper or caravan has to be transported to the Netherlands from, for example, Germany. Then pay close attention. Does the advertiser charge a very low amount for this? There is a good chance that this sale is not entirely pure, so we recommend that you continue your search.

No registration number

In some cases, the offer may involve a stolen vehicle. It is not always easy to find out whether it is actually a stolen vehicle. For example, the registration number can be replaced by a new registration number upon sale.

The most watertight is a proof of purchase or original purchase contract. What you should never do is buy a vehicle without a registration certificate. Sure? Check out a website that records stolen campers or caravans, such as this website.

Strange email address

The email and email address can be decisive in determining that you are dealing with a scammer. For example, pay attention to the language used in the email, is it correct Dutch or are there any strange translation errors? Even if it looks good, even the most convincing phishing emails give themselves away with the email address. For example, consider a striking email address such as mail@472mb.net or 39103@net.com.

Pay close attention to the language in the email.

The sender can also tell you something. In many cases it is an imitation of an existing organization or website. Are you unsure whether it is a phishing email? Enter the email address this website. All known phishing emails are kept track of here.

Another problem in emails is the appearance of links in emails. Using the links in phishing emails, scammers want you to click through to a fake website and extract information. Therefore, do not simply click on links and never provide personal information via email. Never download or open strange files.
