How to prevent damage to your camper

A camper is a dream possession. Hours of driving with the Mediterranean Sea on your right, through villages that tourists have not yet discovered, and benefiting from the hospitality that many Dutch people could still learn something from. Are you already dreaming away? Or have you already grabbed the keys to your camper? In any case, it's a nice prospect to go on a trip with the camper again soon. However, your trip can be quite spoiled by damage. Now, you can't do anything if a scoundrel crashes into your camper. But many problems can be prevented. You'll discover how in this article.

Have the camper checked regularly

When you already have the route in your head and have packed the camper with supplies for two months, nothing stands in the way of your happiness. Except for a damaged camper. An unpleasant surprise, because the camper was fine last month and there was no sign of damage. The difficult thing is that you can't always notice damage. That's why it's wise to have it checked regularly for camper damage. This way, small inconveniences are tackled before they become really troublesome. This allows you to go on your next adventure carefree.

Reversing camera and/or parking sensors

Besides someone being able to drive into your camper, you are also there yourself. Of course, you do everything to prevent damage, but there can always be a pole that you don't see. Especially parking and reversing are challenges. You prevent problems by having a reversing camera and/or parking sensors installed. Then you have a few extra eyes that can warn you. Do you find this too large an investment? Then play it safe and have your partner watch when parking and reversing.

A protective coating

Although the aforementioned Mediterranean Sea in your mind is accompanied by the sun, the weather cannot be planned. You can encounter anything on the road, such as rain showers, storms, or extreme heat. Fortunately, a good camper can take a beating, but extra protection can never hurt. A coating is one of the ways to arm your camper against external influences. Your camper gets an extra layer, which means small damages occur less quickly.

Take it out of storage regularly

Of course, it is an option to park the camper in front of the door all year round. Admittedly, it is not a good option. Even the best coating does not help against the whims of the Dutch winter weather. Task 1 is therefore to put the camper in storage. And when it is there, it is important to take the camper out regularly. It is not good for the engine to stand still for a year. The risk that the engine will not feel like it on the day you want to leave is then quite high.
