Alcove Camper: the space miracle for families
Campers come in four different types. Alcove campers, semi-integrated, integrated or bus campers. In that list, an alcove camper is the choice when as many sleeping places as possible are needed. With a fixed extension above the cabin, an extra double bed is created compared to other campers. Via a small staircase you reach a cozy bedroom, which is usually equipped with windows and a roof hatch for ventilation and a beautiful view. The living space in the motorhome camper remains intact with a curtain in front of it. Handy when the children go to bed a bit earlier than mom and dad. An Alcove camper is therefore somewhat higher. It requires a bit more fuel to drive this alcove motorhome to a destination. The center of gravity is also somewhat higher, which sometimes affects the driving characteristics.
The construction of an alcove camper is usually based on a Fiat, Citroen, Peugeot, Mercedes, Renault, Ford or Volkswagen commercial vehicle and is made of sandwich panels. The exterior is often made of aluminum, but GFK is increasingly being used. Less susceptible to dents and resistant to hail. The roofs are therefore usually made of GFK. The walls are further insulated with foam and provided with a frame to give the camper, in which you participate in traffic, the necessary sturdiness. Furthermore, the current generation of alcove campers uses an Alco wide-track chassis. This consists of a wider rear axle, which improves the driving characteristics of the camper. Optically, it also looks a bit better than rear wheels that are far in the wheel arches. There are various models on the market, from small alcove campers to very large alcove campers, both new alcove campers and used alcove campers. All well-known brands such as Bürstner, Knaus, Weinsberg, Rapido, McLouis, Roller Team, Sunlight, Chausson, Hobby or Hymer also have an extensive range of alcove campers in addition to panel vans and integrated campers.
