Adria Twin Supreme: Bus camper with a convertible feel

Adria Twin Supreme: Bus camper with a convertible feel

Adria has made a name for itself with its bus campers: the Twin, with its sporty appearance, has become an indispensable part of this segment. For model year 2019, the Slovenian camper builder is introducing an additional novelty that has a huge impact on the feeling of space in these popular cars: the Adria Twin.

The Adria Twin bus camper is available in three versions: the entry-level is the Axess, built on Citroën Jumper and available in three lengths: 540, 600 and 640 cm. This is followed by the more luxurious Plus and the top model Supreme - both with the familiar Fiat Ducato as the base vehicle. The Plus starts with the 540, followed by a 600 and a 640 version. And of the most luxurious pampering version Supreme, you can choose from two layouts with a length of 640 cm, or a more compact version with a transverse bed in the 600.

Adria Twin at the Roo Campers

For this test we look at the Adria Twin Supreme 640 SGX at De Roo Campers in Stadskanaal: a lavishly decorated version of the already richly equipped Supreme: 18-inch wheels, automatic transmission, leather upholstery, rear air suspension and equipped with the Adria Prestige package, so with cruise control, electrically heated, adjustable and folding mirrors, but also a screen door at the sliding door.

Exterior

What is immediately noticeable about this Adria Twin is the large, standard panoramic window directly behind the windscreen of the Fiat Ducato, in the roof. With a Heki roof hatch behind it. As a result, a large part of the camper roof consists of windows: it provides a bizarre amount of light and therefore an enormous feeling of space.

To accommodate the panoramic window, Adria not only eliminated the B-pillar of the camper, but also the usual luggage compartment that is placed above the cabin on the ceiling in 99 percent of the bus campers. And that also makes it much easier to get into the driver's and passenger's seats from the living area. And on the road, the enormous light makes it seem as if you are driving a convertible. The Supreme is available in six exterior colors, you can optionally opt for an automatic transmission and in terms of motorization, the Supreme starts at 130 hp and ends with a power of no less than 150 hp via the 180 hp version. The test vehicle has the 130 hp version, more than enough for a bus camper.

Living, eating, sleeping

The feeling of space is really enormous thanks to the panoramic skylight and on the inside the SGX looks like a semi-integrated vehicle - only the sliding door gives away that you are in a bus camper. The headroom in the front of the camper has been enormously improved because the luggage compartment in the ceiling is missing. The lack of space is compensated by the fact that the upper cupboards extend all the way to the front of the camper. If you turn the front seats, a cozy seating area for four people is created. The double sofa is also equipped with seat belts; so you can travel with four people.

A little further back we see a compact kitchen with compressor refrigerator, two-burner gas stove and sink, with sufficient storage space in the wide drawers under the worktop. A fold-out tray next to the kitchen provides extra work space while cooking. The smart wet room accommodates a toilet with a sink against a rotating wall, behind which the shower is hidden. What is special about this SGX layout is the electrically adjustable double bed in which you can sleep either lengthwise or widthwise, as desired. In the top position you can easily place two bicycles or a scooter under the bed.

Installations

The Twin Supreme SGX has a Webasto diesel heater and a Whale gas boiler. Water pipes and wiring are neatly concealed. The cassette toilet and gas bottles are easily accessible.

Conclusion test Adria Supreme 640 SGX

With the 2019 version of the Supreme, Adria is taking a clear step forward. The absence of the B-pillar and the ceiling compartment for small holiday items creates a spacious camper that approximates the feeling of a semi-integrated camper. Living area and cabin merge seamlessly. The newly designed interior is modern and comfortable and the multifunctional bathroom shower area deserves praise. The test vehicle is located at Adria dealer De Roo Campers in Stadskanaal, the only Adria camper dealer in the northern provinces, and can be admired during the Caravana 2019 in Leeuwarden (De Roo Campers can be found at stand 3120).
