Amigo Campers: a modular friend for life

Amigo Campers: a modular friend for life

An Amigo camper van consists of two parts. The van and an interior. You assemble it yourself. This way you can choose a car that already has some kilometers on the odometer and a module that offers all the camper comforts. Including cooling, cooking, a toilet, showering and lighting. Unique to the concept developed by Amigo, however, is the possibility to take the interior with you to your next van.

Amigo Campers is part of Vaartland.nl. Active since 1986 as one of the largest used car dealers in the Netherlands. More than 6,000 are traded annually. Vaartland.nl has a network of branches throughout the Netherlands, so a car can always be offered for a service in the vicinity. Of course, you can also go there with an Amigo camper van.

The van

An Amigo camper module fits not only in a Volkswagen Transporter but just as easily in a Transit, Expert or Jumpy. An extensive choice that Vaartland.nl actually offers. Only the best used vans are eligible to be converted into an Amigo camper. With the purchasing knowledge and expertise of a mega car dealer, the best the market has to offer is therefore available.

As soon as the van that suits you is available, Amigo, together with Vaartland, will turn it into a new camper. The engine, drivetrain and suspension receive an extensive service, and the bodywork is also thoroughly inspected to remove every chip and scratch. Spray painting, perhaps you'll go for a “two tone”, up to and including detailing the cabin and upholstering the seats, turn the base for an Amigo camper into a like-new example. All work is carried out in-house.

The interior

The modularity of an Amigo camper stands for a central part in which almost everything related to camping takes place. You can sleep on top, and the seating area with a table can be found at the front. At the rear, the module houses an enormous outdoor kitchen. The dimensions of this whole are fixed, with a narrow fitting piece it adapts to the car. In this way, the Amigo camper module fits into any van. Moreover, removal is relatively easy. This is of course possible with any camper interior, but in this case, you are not left with a loose bundle of planks in your hands. The module is screwed and can be removed as a whole without damage. It is not difficult or complicated, but it does take some time. So, quickly moving your interior aside for more loading space is not an option. It is especially useful when you are ready for a new van but not yet for a new interior. Also, if you want to switch to an electric van in the near future, that transition will be much less painful, and it is much more sustainable than having to remake an interior.

Atmosphere

Nothing of that efficient modularity can be found in the interior of an Amigo camper. On the contrary, it is cozy and atmospheric. You can choose the color with which the table and cabinets are finished, as well as the fabric for the upholstery. Like that of the cushions on the bench at the table. These are surprisingly comfortable. In addition, they are removable and can be placed outside as a seating area, together with the table, under a colorful awning, somewhere with a beautiful view.

Due to the absence of a sink and hob in the seating area inside, it is wonderfully spacious. Especially with the cabin seat turned around. A second cool box is placed next to the bench. A “handy for emergencies” toilet under the bench on the other side. In addition, there is still room for a real wardrobe. Drawers and cupboards can also be found under the bench. There is no shortage of storage space.

Sleeping

There is also no shortage of headroom, with the pop-top roof raised  there is an abundance of it, in addition to ventilation through the windows with a mosquito net. You can also sleep here. By folding down the bed base, 2 people can find a place on a memory foam mattress with spring plates underneath. Comfortable but in terms of size especially suitable if you like each other quite a lot.

The bed on the ground floor is much more spacious. This is ready in no time. The back of the sofa can be lowered a bit, after which you pull out an extension part of the bed like a drawer. This then slides out sideways to the full width of the bus. The bed that is created has the regal dimensions of 1.8 x 2.1 meters. Here too, a comfortable mattress with spring plates underneath has been laid. When not sleeping, the mattress also folds up and the sofa reappears.

Cooking

Amigo campers have an outdoor kitchen. There's something to be said for that. Cooking inside a Transporter-sized vehicle is not a pleasure.  Outside, on the other hand, you have plenty of space, and Amigo has made optimal use of it. Two large drawers offer space for a cool box, a two-burner gas hob, a small sink with running water, and a workspace in the form of a cutting board with, very thoughtfully, the knives on a magnet in a recess on the underside of the board. A nice detail that shows how the concept of finishing has been handled. Everything slides and closes without a hitch; in this demo model, there isn't a single dent or splinter to be found. The kitchen also has a lot of storage space. Not only for a serious set of pans, cutlery, and crockery, but also for provisions that don't need refrigeration.

This way you have a complete kitchen, everything at hand, with plenty of room to move and a beautiful view. Of course, there are also disappointing weather conditions, but you can counteract these with a side wall or a tent over the tailgate or doors of the Amigo bus.

Off grid

The package that turns a used bus into a new camper includes an extensive power source. A solar panel is attached to the pop-top roof to keep the household battery charged. In addition, you can connect the camper to shore power  and also charges the engine. This is all regulated with a Victron installation including an inverter. So shore power is not always necessary. With the Victron app and a Bluetooth connection  you can flawlessly monitor the battery status. Throughout the camper, you will find sockets and charging points for your phone. The LED lighting completes the nocturnal atmosphere.

The Amigo Module combines the best of both worlds. An everyday usable bus that effortlessly transforms into a fully-fledged camper at a beautiful campsite. The conversion from an empty commercial van to a new camper takes approximately 4 months. Amigo campers offers the complete conversion, including the pop-top roof and technical installation, at a competitive price, also taking care of all further concerns such as camper registration. For € 27,850, your used bus will get  a second life as a new camper.
