Carthago C-Tourer I 141 LE: Integrated with XL beds

Carthago has had another excellent year: campers have discovered Bavarian quality. For 2019, Carthago is launching an interesting newcomer: the 141 LE. The Carthago C-Tourer is a compact camper with long single beds.

Carthago is known for its lightweight construction. Every model year there are new discoveries that make the campers weigh less than the year before. The 2019 models also weigh about 50-60 kilos less, which is good news for the payload, which increases by the same figures. Another innovation is the Carthago C-Tourer I-141 LE: a completely new model with modest dimensions.

Exterior Carthago C-Tourer

The newcomer has a length of 6.65 meters and houses two single beds in the back. With such a layout, similar models usually reach 7 meters, but Carthago has managed to keep it more compact. The integrated motorhome is built on a Fiat Ducato base, including double airbags, ABS, ESP, Hill holder, cruise control and engine air conditioning. It stands on a modified Al-Ko chassis that plays an important role in weight saving.

The roof is made of hail-resistant polyester and the superstructure consists of styrofoam-insulated walls, with aluminum plates on both the outside and inside: a sandwich construction that we see with more manufacturers. The nose of the camper has a new front with a striking grille and the vehicle is equipped with a frost-free double floor, between which the technical installations and, for example, the water tanks are concealed. The garage can be loaded up to 350 kilos and has enough space for two bicycles.

Living, eating, sleeping

If we enter via the electrically operated step, we immediately recognize the stylish, classic interior: one of Carthago's USPs. We see white cabinet doors and warm wood tones. With the cabin seats turned around, a not-too-spacious seating area for four people is created - an extra pull-out seat can be used as a footrest or to quickly tie your shoelaces before going outside.
You can watch TV from the front seats: it is mounted above the headrests of the L-shaped sofa. The second double bed is hidden in the ceiling of the cabin. Directly next to the access door we find the kitchen, with a three-burner gas hob and a sink. There is not much work and storage space in the compact kitchen unit, but there is a nice spot for the Nespresso machine. Six drawers under the worktop offer plenty of space for cooking utensils and other items.

Adjacent to the kitchen is the Dometic Slimtower tall fridge/freezer combination, which immediately forms the separation to the sleeping area. Opposite the refrigerator is the bathroom. The curved toilet door can be used to shield the entire rear from the living area, so you have a lot of privacy while changing, showering and brushing your teeth. In the toilet area we see a Thetford swivel toilet and a swivel wall means that you can also shower in the same room without splashing everything wet. By keeping the bathroom compact, extra space is created for the 2-meter long single beds: a godsend for taller people. Incidentally: Carthago also has campers in its range with beds of 2.10 meters in length. An extra cushion between the single beds ensures that you can also fall asleep together.

Technology Carthago C-Tourer

Thanks to the double floor, the camper is perfectly suited for winter conditions. Technical installations and both water tanks are frost-free in the double floor and can be easily accessed via the floor hatches. Heating and boiler are combined in the Truma Combi 6 and the frost protection is conveniently located under one of the floor hatches. Water pipes and electrical cables are neatly concealed, the electrical cabinet is neatly installed. The air hoses under the dinette bench could have been better shielded: a vulnerable spot when loading holiday items. Another point of criticism: the number of sockets could have been more generous: three 230V sockets and only one USB is not up to date.

By playing with the layout, Carthago has succeeded in building a compact camper that still accommodates two popular single beds. Beds, moreover, with a length of 2 meters. The compromise can be found in the bathroom, where toilet and shower are cleverly combined by means of the swivel wall: a smart solution.
