About Chausson
Chausson is a renowned French A-brand with a rich history. Starting 100 years ago as a coachbuilder of passenger cars, Chausson has grown in the last 30 years to become one of the most important manufacturers of motorhomes with a strong image of comfort and quality. Like no other, Chausson knows how to optimally utilize the space in a motorhome with a surprising layout. Alcoves and semi-integrated models are designed and produced in Tournon sur Rhône, in the heart of the vineyards of the Rhône Valley.
Approximately 5,000 motorhomes leave this Chausson factory annually, making it the largest production facility for motorhomes in Europe. Integrated and panel van campers are also manufactured in their own factory, making Chausson a brand that you cannot ignore in your search for the ideal motorhome.
Ford base
The new Chausson Titanium 650 is based on a Ford Transit. Of course, equipped with the latest technology to minimize fuel consumption and emissions. The 2.0L Tdci engine delivers 170HP, making even the steepest mountain road easy to tackle. A camper wide-track chassis is used for optimal road holding. Air conditioning and cruise control complete the driving comfort. The multimedia system also contributes greatly to this. The Ford dashboard offers space for a single DIN radio as standard.
In the titanium Premium, however, a tablet has been placed for operating the radio, navigation or other apps that you can mirror from your smartphone with Apple Carplay, Android Auto or Mirrorlink.
Standard automatic
A standard automatic gearbox makes the Titanium series an exclusive product. Even if you have never driven with an automatic gearbox, you will never want anything else within minutes. The 6-speed gearbox always selects the right gear when starting, in the city or on the highway. This gearbox with learning ability makes the camper behave just like a passenger car, with plenty of driving comfort on all types of roads.
Exterior
The new Titanium Chausson has hail-resistant polyester cladding, so a bad weather report cannot cause any damage. The grey painted side walls and dark tinted windows make it a chic appearance. The camper locks with a central remote control that also closes access to the superstructure.
In addition to the service hatches, there are two access doors to the garage where bicycles, a scooter, table and chairs can be stored rattle-free.
Above the cabin, an opening skylight provides extra light and ventilation. All around, the new 640 is equipped with quite a few goodies to make your stay at a campsite or camper pitch as pleasant as possible. For example, there is a connection for an outdoor shower, ideal after a day at the beach. Or a gas connection for a grill or barbecue, which keeps it nice and fresh inside when you are preparing a nice steak or tasty fish.
The layout
The interior of the Chausson Titanium 650 is an attractive combination of space, comfort and efficiency. Two longitudinal benches with a table in between form the smart lounge. A good name because with the two pilot seats turned in, a U-shaped seating area is created without the slightly too cramped feeling that characterizes the dinette in many other campers.
The benches have a swivel part, creating two belted seats for passengers on the go. As soon as it's time to sleep, the seating area can be transformed into a double sleeping place with a filler piece and some extra cushions. In addition, the Chausson has a spacious double drop-down bed that you can adjust to a half-height if you need four sleeping places.
If you are with two people, the drop-down bed can be lowered to the bench, making access as easy as with a fixed bed. A ladder is then not necessary. Only the table needs to be lowered for this. But both the bed and the table are electrically operated, so getting the bed out requires no effort at all.
The kitchen
The central kitchen has a 2-burner gas stove. Often there are three, but you might wonder why. Using three burners at once means your pans would have to be very small. In addition, it is rare that you need all burners. The stove in this Chausson offers space for two large pans while still leaving workspace on the kitchen counter.
Next to the sink there is an additional fold-out section for storage. The hob and sink are finished with a glass lid, but this one is loose on the sink. That's not right. In an emergency stop, this could fly through the space and cause unnecessary damage. Leaving the lid at home easily solves that, however. The full-size refrigerator with separate freezer compartment completes the culinary section.
The bathroom
The sanitary facilities are the pearl in the layout of the new Chausson. This is placed at the rear of the superstructure over the full width. This creates a washbasin and toilet with a separate shower in dimensions and freedom of movement that a much larger camper would be jealous of. The bathroom can be closed with a roller door. Not a plastic grey one that is not sturdy enough, but made of aluminum profiles that can take a beating much better. In high-gloss white, it also looks a lot better when closed.
You have plenty of storage space in the bathroom. A large and smaller medicine cabinet for small items and a deep cabinet in the wall behind the toilet for, for example, toilet rolls. A side window provides ventilation while showering.
However, the surprises in the bathroom do not end there. A sliding door provides full access to the spacious garage. You don't have to walk outside to grab something. You can access everything from the inside. Above this access door, a walk-in closet is provided. This is at chest height, so literally walking in is not possible. However, with shelves, six large drawers and a hanging section, the closet offers the utility and experience of a real walk-in closet.
The importer
Fobbe Campers is one of the better-stocked providers in the Netherlands. Started in 2003 with the sale of campers, particularly in the favorably priced segment, Fobbe has grown to a sales volume of around 200 campers per year. On a site of approximately 8000m2, which is always too small of course, there is a permanent stock of around 50 units, both used and brand new.
