Dreamer Select D62: a marvel of space with a special interior

Van campers are hot. They have everything on board for holidays, weekend getaways, and quick city trips. We looked at the Dreamer Select D62, from Mayenne, France. It is a special camper van with a lot of interior space.

Dreamer is a relatively young brand in the camper world and has been part of the Rapido group since 2014, which also houses Westfalia. So, a lot of know-how, and we see that reflected in this Dreamer Select D62 from the – luxurious – Select series.

Exterior

The base vehicle is the Fiat Ducato with a light chassis. In terms of engine, the car is equipped with the new Multijet-2 2.3 liter four-cylinder, with a standard 140 hp version: more than sufficient for this car. Optionally, you can also choose 160 or 180 hp, possibly even with an expensive but fine 9-speed automatic transmission. The standard air suspension on the rear axle provides a lot of driving comfort. Striking features are the flush-mounted windows (instead of surface-mounted) and the large skyroof. The camper van is available in various metallic colors.

Living, cooking, sleeping

From the inside, the Dreamer Select D62 looks like a small semi-integrated motorhome. Due to the absence of the luggage compartment against the cabin ceiling, the overhead cabinets extend almost all the way to the windshield. There is a lot of light coming in through the skyroof and, together with the light wood colors, the camper looks light and spacious. The seating area offers space for five people, due to the 'stool' that not only blocks half of the access (sliding) door, but also prevents you from fully rotating the passenger seat into the living area. That's a shame.

Immediately behind the two-person bench is the compact kitchen with a two-burner hob and clever storage spaces for small items. Cookware can be stored in the six narrow drawers under the kitchen block. Directly opposite the kitchen is the narrow, tall refrigerator (135 liters) with plenty of space for groceries. Then we come to the double bed in the longitudinal direction of the camper. We rarely encounter this layout in camper vans. The bed is long (almost two meters), but relatively narrow: 125 cm.

Next to the bed there is space for a compact bathroom with toilet and shower and even a small washbasin. At the foot end of the bed we also find a spacious wardrobe for clothes. This is actually the interior of a complete semi-integrated motorhome built into a camper van – chapeau to the designers!

Installations

The installations are well taken care of. The fresh water tank is built frost-free under the bed, the waste water tank under the chassis. The camper is equipped with a Thetford swivel toilet, Dometic refrigerator and a lithium household battery (110Ah) is even standard on board. The Truma Combi 4 provides heating and hot water – we would have preferred to see the Truma 4-E here, which also heats electrically instead of exclusively on gas. Also note the clever details: aluminum checker plate in the luggage compartment under the bed, a handy step by the bed and night lighting by the step in the floor. However, the number of sockets and USB connections is too small.

Conclusion Dreamer Select D62

With the Dreamer Select D62, Rapido introduces a special camper van to the market with the spacious feeling of a semi-integrated motorhome – you have to see it for yourself to believe it. The equipment is well taken care of. We also have criticism: the double bed is very narrow and the fifth seat has more disadvantages than advantages.
