Hymer B-class Master Line: New top model on Mercedes Sprinter

Hymer recently introduced its newest top model, the Hymer B-class Master Line, with much fanfare. It is the second series of motorhomes based on the new front-wheel-drive Mercedes Sprinter. But even bigger, even more luxurious, and packed with innovative safety systems.

The Master Line is immediately the top model among Hymer integrated motorhomes, surpassing the previous top model, the exclusive Hymer B-class SL on the well-known Fiat Ducato chassis. The Master Line boasts the familiar star on the hood and is available with two layouts: the 780 with single beds and the 790 with the centrally located queen-size bed.

C-license required

Under the hood, the brand new 2.2-liter Euro 6d engine of the Mercedes Sprinter shines, with 105 kW/143 hp. Optionally, you can also choose the 177 hp version, which we highly recommend for this 7.89-meter long hotel room on wheels. This behemoth already weighs 3,480 kilos empty, and the maximum total weight is 4,430 kilos, upgradeable to 4,500 kilos. This gives you a payload of no less than 1,020 kilos. With such figures, it is immediately clear that you need a C driving license.

Super Light Chassis

And while we're checking off options on the option list: choose the 9-speed automatic transmission instead of the manual 6-speed. Like the Modern Comfort, the Master Line also features the award-winning Super Light Chassis, which saves tens of kilos by making some chassis parts out of plastic. In the chassis, water tanks are frost-free hidden in a double floor, as are the technical installations.

We discover another special feature at the front of the motorhome: it has a kind of kink on both sides, above the front wheels. This makes the Master Line look sporty and dynamic. Another striking detail: the windshield, which seems to seamlessly merge into the side windows. Chapeau! Too bad the radiator is not protected against stone chips.

Seating area

The wide access door is equipped with 'keyless entry'; the key can therefore remain in your pocket. Once inside, the door pulls itself into the lock with a subtle hum. The interior looks understatedly chic, with a choice of two wood colors: light oak combined with matte white cabinet doors, or a dark walnut color with high-gloss white cabinet doors. In the dashboard, the enormous multimedia/navigation system, which comes directly from the Mercedes E-class passenger car, sparkles. With 'Hey Mercedes', the computer comes to life and you can use voice control for navigation and telephone commands, for example.

The electronic handbrake is ideal; it doesn't get in the way when you want to turn the driver's seat around. With the pilot seats turned around, a cozy seating area is created (with six USB sockets!) and the pull-down bed is hidden in the cabin ceiling.

Cooking and sleeping

The kitchen is equipped with a gas hob combined with induction – handy if you are connected to electricity. Opposite the kitchen, we see a large refrigerator with a freezer compartment, whose doors hinge on both sides – a Dometic patent from last year. Of course, the Master Line has a separate shower and separate toilet, the door of which can be fully opened to create a large combined bathroom across the full width. In the back, we find the bedroom. In the B-Master Line 780, these are two single beds that can also be converted into a double bed. In the 790 version, you have a spacious queen-size bed in the same place, which you can access from both sides.

Installations

The Master Line is fully equipped. Alde liquid heating and underfloor heating, crosswind assist, brake assist, adaptive cruise control, rain sensor, and a large 32” TV screen that electrically retracts into the backrest of the L-shaped sofa – you name it, it's in there.

Conclusion motorhome test Hymer B-class

With the B-class Master Line, Hymer once again has a top model on Mercedes. The motorhome is luxuriously executed with great attention to design. There is not much to criticize about the Master Line – perhaps a small detail: the pedestals under the driver's seats. A cover cap should have been there, because now you look at the bare, white steel. But that's nitpicking.
