Camping in France: explore Provence
A favorite country of us Dutch people: France. And a beautiful area in this country is Provence. It is a beautiful area full of mountains, glacial valleys and charming towns. Lavender and endless fields full of sunflowers bring plenty of color. And what about the Grand Canyon du Verdon? After the American Grand Canyon, this is the largest canyon in the world.
Grand Canyon du Verdon
Seven hundred meters deep and more than twenty kilometers long. That is the Grand Canyon du Verdon, after the Grand Canyon in America it is the largest canyon on earth. With dizzying abysses, where you can only with difficulty see the small river flowing at the very bottom. In some places it is no wider than eight meters.

Flamingos and horses
Provence is located in the southeast of France, between the Italian border and the Rhône valley. The area consists of a large number of provinces, such as the Bouches-du-Rhône, which is known for its saltwater marshes and the beaches of the Camargue. With a bit of luck, you might encounter flamingos and wild horses here.

Mont Ventoux
Also special is the Var, an area that was formed millions of years ago by fierce volcanic eruptions. The smallest department of Provence is Vaucluse, where thousands of cyclists annually battle the almost 2,000-meter high Mont Ventoux.
Bouillabaisse
Beautiful cities are Cannes, Nice and Marseille – the latter is the birthplace of Bouillabaisse: the richly filled fish soup with toasted bread and garlic sauce aïoli. In the ‘Vieux Port’ you will find numerous bistros and fish restaurants where this delicious soup is freshly made daily. A few more culinary highlights are roasted chicken from the oven and the French apple pie Tarte aux Pommes.

Vincent van Gogh
Lavender lovers should go to Dignes-les-Bains, the capital of lavender, in the summer. In the first weekend of August, the lavender harvest is celebrated here with a five-day festival. Antique collectors can go to Isle sur la Sorgue in Provence: a beautiful village brimming with antique shops.
A nice place for a picnic is nearby: the Roman ruins in Saint-Remy-de-Provence. Cheeses, baguette, some fresh fruit… Then you'll feel just like Vincent van Gogh – he even lived here for a while!
