From a bad buy to a dream

Dirk Jacobs made a not-so-wise purchase 22 years ago. What seemed like an endless repair story back then is now a huge eye-catcher.

When he saw this 1958 Buick Special in a magazine ad, he was immediately sold. The car had been imported from America a few years earlier, and Jacobs had taken it over without any doubt.

Arriving home none the wiser, it turned out that a lot was wrong with his 'new' car. He himself admits that you're never really finished with a Buick, because that's also part of the adventure. It ultimately took Jacobs 12 years to get the car as it is now. That certainly didn't always go smoothly. An important tool he had back then was nothing less than the fax machine! If he needed something, he would look in a parts catalog from America for companies offering the part and then send them a fax to make a purchase.

A beautiful car (which now runs like a dream) naturally calls for a beautiful caravan. A real Fokker had to be added. Jacobs searched for a very long time until he found someone who could help him with it. They completely stripped the caravan and rebuilt it in the American diner style.

The Buick and Fokker attract a lot of attention. Someone even overtook the duo from the hard shoulder to be able to make a video. Jacobs describes it as one big, shiny fairground, and that's what makes it so great.
