Whale Trailer Cabin: Chinese Ingenuity Wins Red Dot Award

Innovations in caravan land usually consist of a further development of what was already there. The Whale Trailer Cabin is an exception to this. With an alien design and an ultra smart design, this is the concept caravan of the future.

Designer Hu Yong

The Whale Trailer Cabin was created by the Chinese designer Hu Yong. The caravan has been specially developed for the Chinese market. Yet his design is also receiving international support. In developing the Whale Trailer, Hu paid particular attention to the best way to combine all functions in a limited space. This has worked surprisingly well with a modular construction of the caravan.

Approximately all corners of the Whale Trailer Cabin can be tilted, opened or extended. When you do this completely you will understand the naming, the caravan looks like a whale with its tail up when it is unfolded or extended.

Mega living room

The layout of the Whale Trailer offers a huge living area by teardrop caravan standards. Take the fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom worthy of the name, or the spacious sleeping area with plenty of windows for natural light and ventilation.

The kitchen can be used both indoors and outdoors. You can slide the kitchen mechanism out in an instant. For indoor use, you can create more headroom by folding the roof up.

Red Dot Design Award 2021

It is not yet entirely clear whether the concept will ever become reality. The Whale Trailer Cabin does require a complicated production process. What helps is the award of the Red Dot Design Award 2021 to find a manufacturer.

The exterior of the Whale Trailer is especially striking; smooth and streamlined. Fins on the roof increase stability and the seamlessly placed doors and windows keep the Cd value unprecedentedly low. A caravan with extremely low air resistance is interesting for the electric age. The less a caravan loads the car, the less energy from the battery is needed to get the car with caravan to its destination. Of course, this also makes a difference when using diesel or petrol.
