Small budget, but still on holiday? It's possible!

Appie Wijma from Opende in Groningen started a campsite for low-income earners last year. And this year he's going one step further. Given the amount of donations received, Appie can even offer all-inclusive holidays.

The benefactor, who is also not well off, started this initiative with the motto: 'What I have, I give away'. What started as a small idea has grown very quickly. The intention was to offer four tents, but thanks to free tents and materials, it has become a multiple of that.

From new clothes, bags of chips, different bottles of drinks, cheese and you name it. A car full of bags arrives every day. In fact, last year the guests had to rely on tents and this year they can stay in luxurious trailer tents and caravans. Also be

Appie continues: “I encounter so much poverty,” Appie continues, “also because I run the 'food garden'. I have a soft spot for people who are less fortunate. I can not stand injustice. And then you hear from those children that they have never been on holiday. I just wish all those families a carefree week.”

A lot of work done

Over the past year, Appie has done a lot of work to make his guests happy. “We got a completely new fence, installed play equipment and painted it. We have worked hard here and I am now very satisfied.”

The guests cannot believe their luck. “I like it here and it is also nice for our daughter,” says one of the guests. “She is playing nicely and is having a great time. That's great to see.” The family would not have gone on holiday this summer if they had not been able to stay with Appie.

Campsite owner Appie does not intend to stop doing this, because he gets a lot of satisfaction from it: “It doesn't make you a cent better, because it requires a lot of work. Yet it gives you so much wealth. ”

Guests are welcome at Appies camping for one full week. Booking is no longer possible: the campsite is full for this season.
