Dutch and Belgian camping guests in Spain

The Spanish Statistical Office has released some figures for the year 2018. These concern the number of overnight stays at campsites in Spain and the corresponding nationalities. A distinction is made between Spanish and foreign camping guests and the different regions in Spain where these campers went.

Total number in Spain

In total, 7,867,359 campers were counted throughout Spain in 2018. These can be divided into 5,179,349 Spanish campers and 2,688,010 foreigners, of whom 2,524,144 came from EU countries. Of the total number of campers in 2018, 3,248,156 went to campsites in Catalonia, followed by 996,590 in the Valencia region, 988,647 in Andalusia, 370,095 in Aragon and 310,318 in Castilla y León.

Dutch people

Throughout 2018, 472,531 Dutch people went on holiday to campsites in Spain. Of all Dutch campers, 253,764 went to campsites in Catalonia, followed by 47,910 in the Valencia region and 38,980 in Andalusia. Castilla y León is also popular with Dutch campers with a number of 27,604, followed by the Basque Country with 24,536, Aragon with 20,182, Cantabria with 14,560 and Asturias with 7,515 campers. The next region on the list is Extremadura with 6,271 Dutch campers, followed by Navarra with 6,130, Galicia with 5,934, Murcia region with 5,183, Madrid region with 4,865, La Rioja with 3,055, Castilla-La Mancha with 2,958, Balearic Islands with 2,892 and the Canary Islands with 191 campers from the Netherlands.

Belgians

Throughout 2018, 121,548 Belgians went on holiday to campsites in Spain. Of all Belgian campers, 61,052 went to campsites in Catalonia, followed by 17,428 in the Valencia region and 8,838 in Andalusia. The Aragon region is popular with Belgians with 8,190 campers, followed by the Basque Country with 6,150, Castilla y León with 5,367, Cantabria with 2,986 and Asturias with 2,013 campers. The next region on the list is Galicia with 1,923 campers, followed by the Murcia region with 1,692, Navarra with 1,522, Extremadura with 1,339 and the Madrid region with 1,195 campers from Belgium. In 2018, 814 Belgians also went camping in La Rioja, followed by Castilla-La Mancha with 586, the Balearic Islands with 366 and the Canary Islands with 168 campers.
