The best-selling brand in the Netherlands
In 1965, the then Yugoslavian company IMV built the first prototype of an Adria caravan. This was presented at a fair in Stockholm. A second, slightly more rounded model followed in the same year. Shortly thereafter, large-scale series production of the model, which would remain in production for years, began. In 1967, production was increased to 2 caravans per day, and in 1968, exports to the Netherlands started.
In 1970, Adria caravans received the characteristic blue stripe at window height, and the Luxury models had all windows in double glazing with a blue tint. This was a comfortable improvement for winter sports enthusiasts. In October 1972, a new caravan factory was opened in Brežice, and two weeks later, another one in Deinze, Belgium. At that time, manufacturer IMV was the largest Yugoslavian exporter thanks to Adria caravans and seven subsidiaries abroad.
In 1978, a new model series was developed. This second generation of caravans featured the characteristic pontoon shape. It was first introduced only with the Grand de Luxe models and the following year also with the other types. In 1979, the construction of new production facilities in Novo Mesto began. 1980 was the most successful year for Adria, with 26,757 caravans produced and sold.
With the new, more aerodynamically designed Mistral, the third generation went into production in 1982. The caravan's designer was the Frenchman Joël Bretecher. Within two years, the other types would also adopt this Mistral design.
With the Adriatik 420 and 450, the first two camper models based on the Renault Trafic appeared, built in Deinze, Belgium.
In 1994, Adria introduced the Unica. This was already the fifth generation of caravans. At that time, the Adria Van, based on the Fiat Ducato, also went into production. Despite many successes and new developments, the first half of the 1990s was a difficult time. In 1996, Adria Caravan was transformed into Adria-Mobil. With new management led by Sonja Gole, things started to improve from then on.
With the Coral, the production of alcove models in Novo Mesto began in 1998. This series is still produced and successfully sold. The sixth generation of Adria caravans was introduced for the caravans.
In 2001, the Adiva, the first model of the seventh caravan generation, appeared. The Stargo on a Mercedes-Benz chassis expanded the camper program. With the 3way on a Renault Trafic chassis with an optional pop-top roof, the camper van model line was further expanded.
In 2004, Adria again introduced a new camper, the semi-integrated Izola based on the Renault Master. The company continued to grow towards a top European position, with various management awards for the leadership in Slovenia. The ninth caravan generation began in 2005 with a particularly striking model: the innovatively designed small caravan Action. The now 40-year-old company moved into a completely newly furnished factory. In 2006, Adria launched its first integrated camper, the Vision.
In 2015, Adria-Mobil, acquired by Autocommerce, celebrated its fiftieth anniversary with a number 1 position in the Dutch market.
