Carthago C-Tourer I 141 LE: Integral with XL beds

Carthago has once again had an excellent year: campers have discovered Bavarian quality. For 2019, Carthago is launching an interesting newcomer: the 141 LE. The Carthago C-Tourer is a compact camper with long single beds.

Carthago is known for its lightweight construction. Every model year there are new discoveries that make the campers weigh less than the year before. The 2019 models also weigh about 50-60 kilos less and that is good news for the loading capacity, which increases by the same figures. Another innovation is the Carthago C-Tourer I-141 LE: a completely new model with modest dimensions.

Exterior Carthago C-Tourer

The newcomer has a length of 6.65 meters and houses two single beds in the rear. With such a layout, peers usually reach 7 meters, but Carthago has managed to keep it more compact. The integral camper is built on a Fiat Ducato basis with, among other things, double airbags, ABS, ESP, Hill holder, cruise control and engine air conditioning. It stands on a modified Al-Ko chassis that plays an important role in weight savings.

The roof is made of hail-resistant polyester and the structure consists of walls insulated with styrofoam, with aluminum plates on both the outside and inside: a sandwich construction that we see with more manufacturers. The snout of the camper has a new front with a striking grill and the car is equipped with a frost-free double floor, between which the technical installations and, for example, the water tanks are concealed. The garage can be loaded up to 350 kilos and has enough space for two bicycles.

Living, eating, sleeping

When we enter via the electrically operated step, we immediately recognize the stylish, classic interior: one of Carthago's USPs. We see white cupboard flaps and warm wood tones. The turned cabin seats create a not too spacious seating group for four people - you can use an extra extendable seat as a footrest or to quickly tie your laces before going outside.
You can watch TV from the front seats: it is mounted above the headrests of the L-shaped sofa. The second double bed is hidden in the ceiling of the cabin. Immediately next to the entrance door we find the kitchen, with a three-burner gas hob and a sink. There is not much work and storage space in the compact kitchen unit, but there is a nice place for the Nespresso machine. Six drawers under the worktop provide plenty of space for cooking utensils and other items.

Adjacent to the kitchen is the Slimtower high fridge/freezer combination from Dometic, which immediately forms a partition to the sleeping area. The bathroom is located opposite the refrigerator. The curved toilet door can be used to screen off the entire rear of the living area, so that you have a lot of privacy while changing, showering and brushing your teeth. In the toilet room we see a Thetford revolving toilet and a revolving wall means that you can also shower in the same room without splashing everything wet. Keeping the bathroom compact creates extra space for the 2-meter-long single beds: a solution for taller people. By the way: Carthago also has campers in its program with beds of 2.10 meters in length. An extra pillow between the single beds ensures that you can fall asleep together.

Technology Carthago C-Tourer

The double floor makes the camper ideal for winter conditions. Technical installations and both water tanks are located frost-free in the double floor and you can easily reach them via the floor hatches. Heating and boiler are combined in the Truma Combi 6 and the frost protection is conveniently located under one of the floor hatches. Water pipes and electricity cables are neatly concealed, the electricity box is neatly installed. The air hoses under the dinette bench could have been better shielded: a vulnerable spot when loading holiday gear. Another point of criticism: the number of sockets could have been more generous: three 230V sockets and only one USB is outdated.

Conclusion Carthago camper test

By playing with the layout, Carthago has managed to build a compact camper that still accommodates two popular single beds. Beds in addition, with a length of 2 meters. The compromise is found in the bathroom, where toilet and shower are cleverly combined by means of the rotating wall: a smart solution.
