Renault SpaceNomad: Powered by Pilote

From now on, you can also visit the Renault showroom for a camper van à la the California. From the 2022 season, the SpaceNomad, based on the Renault Trafic, will be shining there. Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France and Germany are next. When the Dutch Renault dealers will follow is not yet known.

Renault used Switzerland as a guinea pig to see if its own factory camper van would attract the interest of buyers. That was the case with the SpaceNomad, which is why the aforementioned countries are experiencing its introduction. The SpaceNomad is based on the compact Renault Trafic. The van is available in two versions. With four seats or with a slightly longer wheelbase as a five-seater. Under the hood you can choose between 110 or 170 hp. As a French car manufacturer, Renault is collaborating with the equally French camper builder Pilote for this campervan.

Also as a daily car

The SpaceNomad can easily be used as a daily car. With four or five seats, you have plenty of space for your passengers. The camper part by Pilote consists of a cabinet wall on the side including a compact but usable kitchen unit. This includes two burners with piezo ignition and a sink. A compressor refrigerator with a capacity of 49 liters is also installed as standard. The reasonably large table can be attached to the kitchen unit. When not in use, you can store it in the back and it won't be in the way. The table can also be used outdoors.

Four sleeping places

The bus has two double beds. The passenger bench is fixed and cannot be moved on a rail. But you can easily turn this bench into a bed by laying the back flat. The bed size is 130 by 185 cm. The pop-top roof has a second bed of 120 by 200 centimeters.

Mature van

After the last facelift, the Renault Trafic has grown into a mature van. The dashboard looks sleek and attractive. The 8” large touchscreen is striking. You can use it to operate the entertainment system, for example. The exterior has also been modernized by the facelift. For example, the Trafic has different bumpers, LED headlights and a set of 17” alloy wheels.

In addition to the L1, there will also be a 5.40 m L2 SpaceNomad. The layout is similar. Also the rear seat, which, however, is on a rail here to be able to slide. The pricing is not yet known, but it is expected to be around € 50,000 in France. That is without our notorious bpm.
