Bürstner Copa Trail: tough mini-camper

Bürstner Copa Trail: tough mini-camper

Germany and France already had it, and from model year 2022, it will also be available in the Netherlands: the Bürstner Copa mini-camper. We tested it for you. And immediately in the tough Trail version, with an off-road look.

No, it's not a 4x4, but its looks are just as good, with that tough grille and its 16-inch alloy wheels. With the Copa Trail, Bürstner positions itself in the compact pop-top camper van segment, where the VW California and the Ford Nugget are also important players.

Exterior

The great thing about such a compact camper van is that you can also use it for normal daily trips – it even fits in a parking garage – and it also has enough camping facilities on board for holidays or a weekend getaway. The basis for the Bürstner Copa Trail is the Ford Transit Custom, which can be supplied as a 130 or even 185 hp version. The vehicle comes with various safety systems, an extensive infotainment system, air conditioning, tinted side windows that can open, plus a pop-top roof.

The Copa is available as a Bus with separate seats in the back or as a Holiday version, with a two-person bench seat and a small kitchen. Optionally, you can order extra seats for a maximum of six seats with seat belts.

Living, eating, sleeping

Inside, the Copa features a rail system for the individual seats in the Bus version, or the bench in the Holiday. This bench can be laid flat to create a double bed, and there's an extra side cushion for more sleeping space. Together with the two sleeping places in the pop-top roof, you can then go on holiday with four people. Although the bed in the sleeping pop-top, with a width of 1 meter, is a bit cramped for adults – it works for children. The Holiday version has a compact kitchen with a sink and a two-burner gas hob. While cooking, you have 2.47 meters of headroom, because the bed base of the pop-top roof can be folded up.

Installations

The Copa Trail is standard equipped with a 40-liter water tank and an outdoor shower. A compressor refrigerator (40 liters) is extra, as is a diesel heater. A gas bottle is standard on board, as are two USB ports. For an additional charge, you can expand this with a 230 Volt socket and extra USBs. Two extra comfort packages are available for more luxury on board. Also extra is the Camper package, which includes two chairs and a table, crockery, cutlery, leveling blocks, a power cable, and a tent for the tailgate.

Conclusion

You can use the Copa Trail as a daily family car, as a camper, but also, for example, as a delivery van for large items, for example when moving house or a trip to Ikea. That makes it very flexible to use. You do need some extra packages to be able to go on the road comfortably, because it is somewhat sparsely equipped as standard.
