Chausson X550 Exclusive Line: Sporty French

Exterior

Cool black surfaces on the exterior, black fenders, black 16-inch alloy wheels and subtle blue details: the appearance of the compact Chausson X550 is in perfect order. The Fiat Ducato is used as the basic vehicle, with the new 2,2 liter diesel engine, which is slightly more economical and environmentally friendly than its predecessor. Above the front window we see a panoramic skylight that can be opened - nice to let the heat out when you return after a day in the city. An extra door is mounted in the polyester outer walls on the left side, with storage options for camping chairs behind it.

Living, eating, sleeping

Inside, light wood colours, white and taupe color surfaces create a spacious interior. Handles are finished in matte black. Gray was chosen for the furniture upholstery, with blue color accents that we also encounter on the outside of the camper. The dinette is a so-called face-to-face layout, with longitudinal benches directly opposite each other. Together with the turned cabin seats, you can have a pleasant evening here with at least five or six people.

Lowering the living area table creates a second double bed for the children or for guests, because the fixed double bed can be lowered from the ceiling. Disadvantage: with the electrically operated fold-down bed lowered, you cannot exit through the entrance door. The windows are equipped with combination roller shutters with blackout and insect screen. There are no curtains or window coverings, although there is a roller blind for the large window on the left wall, for some privacy during the day.

Directly opposite the entrance we see the kitchen with a deep worktop in which the hob and sink are built-in. A narrow strip in the countertop is available as a workplace to prepare a meal. There are plenty of storage options for cooking utensils in the drawer unit.

Further back we find a large hanging/cupboard for clothing and towels, for example, and behind it is the bathroom. With toilet and a fold-out sink above it and a shower on the other side.

Installations

Diesel heating, with ring heating: that saves having a large gas bottle on board. You can make do with a small one for cooking, for the boiler (10 liters) and for the operation of the refrigerator if 230 volts are not available. The X550 has nice design details, also with the LED lighting on board, such as the ceiling lamp that is mounted to the ceiling under the fold-down bed.

The Chausson X550 is an interesting newcomer to the camper market, as an alternative to the popular bus camper. With camper vans you have to look carefully for a model that allows you to go on holiday with four people - with the X550 you can do that without any problems and you also have a spacious bathroom by camper van standards. The camper is quite basic and has a lot of loading capacity. The storage options for holiday items are limited.
