Chausson X550 Exclusive Line: Sporty Frenchman
A sporty appearance – that's certainly how you can describe the Chausson. The black panels and subtle blue details give it a tough look: this is something special on the road. We take a look at the Chausson X550 Exclusive Line from France.
With its dimensions, the X550 is an excellent alternative to the bus camper, which currently plays a prominent role in camper sales: at 5.99 meters long, it's comparable to the bus camper, but also 5 centimeters wider. Those extra centimeters, plus its straight walls, give the camper extra interior space that Chausson utilizes optimally.

Exterior
Tough black panels on the exterior, black mudguards, black 16-inch alloy wheels, and subtle blue details: the compact Chausson X550's appearance is spot on. The Fiat Ducato is used as the base vehicle, with the new 2.2-liter diesel engine that is slightly more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly than its predecessor. Above the front window, we see a panoramic skylight that can open – great for letting out the heat after a day in the city. An extra door is mounted on the left side of the polyester outer walls, with storage possibilities for camping chairs behind it.
Living, eating, sleeping
Inside, light wood tones, white and taupe color panels create a spacious interior. Handles are finished in matte black. Grey has been chosen for the furniture upholstery, with blue color accents that we also see on the outside of the camper. The dinette is a so-called face-to-face layout, with bench seats directly opposite each other. Together with the rotated cabin seats, you can have a cozy evening here with at least five or six people.

By lowering the table in the living area, a second double bed is created for children or guests, as the fixed double bed can be lowered from the ceiling. Disadvantage: with the electrically operated pull-down bed lowered, you cannot exit through the access door. The windows are equipped with combi blinds with blackout and insect screens. Curtains or window coverings are missing, although there is a roller blind for the large window on the left wall, for some privacy during the day.

Directly opposite the entrance, we see the kitchen with a deep worktop in which the hob and sink are built. A narrow strip in the countertop is available as a workspace to prepare a meal. In the drawer unit, there are sufficient storage options for cooking utensils.
Further back, we find a large wardrobe for clothes and, for example, towels, and behind that is the bathroom. With a toilet and above it a fold-out washbasin, and on the other side a shower.

Installations
Diesel heating, with ring heating: this saves a large gas bottle on board. You can make do with a small one for cooking, for the boiler (10 liters) and for the operation of the refrigerator when 230 volts are not available. The X550 has nice design details, also with the LED lighting on board, such as the ceiling light mounted under the lift-up bed against the ceiling.
Conclusion Chausson X550
The Chausson X550 is an interesting newcomer to the camper market, as an alternative to the popular bus camper. With bus campers, you have to search carefully for a model to go on holiday with four people – with the X550, that's no problem, and you also have a spacious bathroom for bus camper standards. The camper is quite basic and has a lot of payload. The storage options for holiday items are limited.
