Morelo Palace 85 L: hotel suite on wheels

Morelo is a manufacturer of luxury 'liners': the king's class among integrated campers. One of the most popular models – the Palace – has been completely renewed for the 2019 model year. Is there anything that could be improved on this hotel suite on wheels? We looked at this Morelo Palace 85 L.

Morelo is part of the German Knaus Tabbert Group (KTG) and therefore there is also a Dutch touch to the manufacturer of luxury liners: the investment group HTP Investments - owned by the Dutchman Van de Pundert - is co-owner of the brand. The second Dutch bracket is formed by Haffkamp Campers in Sittard, Limburg. There we look at the Morelo Palace 85 L: a layout with two single beds.

Iveco Daily chassis

The Morelo Palace 85 L is built on an Iveco Daily chassis. Propulsion is provided by a 4-cylinder Euro-6 diesel engine with a capacity of almost three liters. The 205 horsepower is transmitted to the rear wheels with an automatic gearbox. Morelo importer Maurice Haffkamp has had the Palace equipped with VB-active air air suspension, which can be electronically set to normal, sport or comfort mode. This means that the 7.500 kg liner (empty weight 6.200 kg, loading capacity 1.300 kg) fits like a rock on the road.

Characteristic of liners is the ability to be on the road for a long time. The Palace is therefore equipped with a 200 liter diesel tank and water tanks are concealed in the chassis for drinking water (380 liters), waste water (250 liters) and a 250 liter drain tank (including macerator) for the toilet has been built in. So you can be on the road for a long time before you have to discharge tanks or take in fresh water.

Exterior and inner walls are made of aluminum with insulating foam in between. The roof and bottom are equipped with a polyester sheet: this provides good protection against hail on the roof and the polyester bottom sheet prevents damage from splashing water and stone chips. The Morelo Palace 85 L is well equipped with service hatches for gas supplies and holiday luggage, among other things. At the back of the camper we see a spacious garage with electrically opening doors.

The garage has room for e-bikes, a scooter, motorcycle and camping furniture. Another special feature of this 2019 model is the sporty rear spoiler that reduces splashing dirt against the rear wall due to its design. Also striking is the 6 meter long awning with built-in LED lighting: fully integrated into the structure - a nice design detail.

Perfect finish

The extra wide access door opens with the remote control or with a numerical code. Inside we see an interior that we would expect from a liner of this class: perfectly finished furniture, matching upholstery and leather upholstery for the Palace equipped with longitudinal benches: a so-called bar seating layout. A special detail is the removable steering wheel, which makes it easier to turn the driver's seat towards the living area.

An electric fold-down bed measuring 140 by 200 cm has been placed above the comfortable seating area, the width of which even extends to 170 cm. So three children can sleep comfortably there. Behind the seating group we find the spacious kitchen with three-burner hob, oven/grill, coffee maker and even a dishwasher. The Palace has a walk-in shower with the dimensions of home and a spacious toilet opposite. The bedroom is located at the back of the camper, with single beds that can easily be turned into a large sleeping paradise for two people. Indirect LED processing has been concealed everywhere in the camper and an attractive interior is created with separately controlled spotlights and reading lights.

Morelo Palace 85 L

The Palace is equipped with a double floor with a height of 42 centimeters: electronics, among other things, are integrated in a frost-free manner and the double floor also offers an enormous amount of luggage space. There is Alde liquid heating on board: all-round radiators throughout the vehicle, combined with underfloor heating. The temperature in the bedroom can be controlled separately.

High-quality components

The Palace liner is equipped with high-quality components on all fronts. For example, Büttner has been selected for electronics: the premium supplier of batteries, solar panels, chargers and inverters. The test vehicle even opted for a valuable lithium 160Ah battery, so that you can go without a power pole for a long time. Remarkable are the enormous tanks for diesel, drinking water and waste water. Furthermore, the test model is packed with options, with the removable steering wheel, engine carrier, tow bar and the advanced VB active air suspension being the highlights.

The Morelo Palace 85 L has a layout popular among Dutch camper enthusiasts with single beds that can quickly be made into a huge double bed. Importer Haffkamp has equipped the car very completely - in terms of layout, with the bar seat and beyond, you can't imagine whether it is on board, up to and including the dishwasher in the kitchen and the 360 degree camera. The finish is as you would expect from a luxury liner: phenomenal. With this hotel suite on wheels, nothing is left to be desired.
