Pössl Summit Plus 600: award-winning bus camper

Bus campers are popular. In Germany they are selling like hot cakes and in the Netherlands we are also seeing a significant increase in sales numbers. On these pages you can view the Pössl Summit Plus 600: named 'Camper of the Year' by the ANWB and 'Camper of the Year' by the NKC in the Van Camper category.

Compact, handy and yet everything on board. For a camping holiday, for a weekend away or for a visit to family on the other side of the country: after an evening of drinks, you can simply step into your own bed in the driveway. Due to the exploding demand, bus camper builder Pössl even opened its own factory last year; a special step for the brand that until now had its campers produced by other manufacturers, mainly by Dethleffs. The completely new Summit series rolls off the production line at the new factory in Vielbrunn.

Exterior of the Pössl

We look at the Pössl Summit Plus 600 with transverse bed - a 640 of this model is also available, with single beds in the longitudinal direction. The Citroën Jumper is the basic vehicle of this bus camper. In terms of motorization, the 2.0 liter engine was chosen, which delivers a strong 160 hp. To meet the emission requirements, Ad Blue technology is used: a fluid that you have to top up occasionally. The Citroën is only available as a manual gearbox - an automatic transmission is not available. The car is equipped with ABS, ESP and – kudos! – two airbags: strangely enough, the second airbag is an option with most brands.

The standard equipment also includes 16-inch aluminum rims, tinted Seitz built-in windows with continuously adjustable combination rollers (blackout plus insect screens) and a wide entry to the sliding door on the right side. Optionally, you can have the sliding door electrically operated, so that the door opens and closes silently - that is the disadvantage of the manually operated door that only closes after a big bang. The wide entry at the sliding door is again part of the extensive standard equipment. The wagons are available in various colors.

Living, eating, sleeping

Getting into the Summit is easy: because of the 70 cm wide step, but also because of the rounded kitchen unit. The furniture – with rounded corners – is made in wood colours; the cabinet flaps have contrasting colors that give the interior a modern look. The height-adjustable seats in the cabin rotate towards the living area and, together with the dinette sofa, form a seating area for four people.

The kitchen has a sink and a hob with two gas burners. There is plenty of work space available and you can store many things in the three drawers and the semi-circular corner cabinet. A Dometic absorption refrigerator has been installed, with a capacity of 90 liters. The center section of the transverse bed is foldable, allowing you to place bicycles or a scooter in the center aisle - with the lashing eyes in the floor you can secure everything properly.

Another special feature under the bed is the hanging cupboard on the right side, which rises after pressing the clothes rail - but first remove a mattress section. You can store other clothes and, for example, towels in the ceiling cabinets above the bed. You can easily enter the toilet room through the sliding door. We see a rotating toilet and shower area created by rotating the washbasin wall - a smart solution that we also encounter with other brands.

Technical installations

The water tank can be found in the back of the car, behind the double doors (left) and on the right in the back there is room for a large and a small gas bottle. The Truma heater/boiler is built into the dinette bench, with the frost protection next to it. We also see the fuse box. Pipes and wiring are neatly concealed. Another special feature is the blue night lighting, so you can easily find the toilet.

Conclusion test Pössl Summit Plus 600

With the Summit Plus, Pössl introduces an interesting entry-level bus camper. It 'feels' remarkably spacious because the sight lines run all the way from front to back. There are plenty of storage options and you can even store shirts and a few jackets in the innovative hanging cupboard. For a camper van in this segment, the Summit is very well equipped, including the standard second airbag for the passenger seat.

Plus minus

+ Rich standard equipment
+ Price
– Hanging cupboard difficult to reach
